Jo, I just bought the license for MuLab that does not expire, and I totally thank you for that...but I am wondering...if alot of your customers do this...where will you get new revenue from? :hihi: :hihi:

Look, it is none of my business, but actually... I was wondering about the business model here.

I like having MuLab "for life"...but I thought you might go more like the subscription route.

It seems to be the way things are developing, with various software.

Post

Personally i dislike subscription models.
Freedom is one of the most beautiful things in life :)

At the same time i think the "For Life" option is a nice feature and can help to spread MuLab.
Maybe the "For Life" option should/will increase in price, as MuLab grows.
The current price still is quite low, as a promo.

I'm with Jo on this. Subscription models are understandably unpopular with users. Look at the discussions about them on here. Introducing one would be a way to secure income from a hardcore, faithful user base, but would certainly have a detrimental effect on growing that user base. You'd also get some existing users jump ship.

Post

I for one subscribe to nothing, because that's what you own when you subscribe.

Am I the only guy around here that is cool with subscriptions?

How is it any different than paying for your electricity, or water?

And what about an OS...say at some point MuLab runs on Linux. Well, Linux is free, great, but still would require maintenance and regular updates and attention. That is like having a free subscription, an ongoing thing.

Makes sense to me!

Anyhow, MuLab is a great value in various ways.

If you can no longer pay for electricity or water you no longer have access to electricity or water

I hear the point...it is a common view around here. Well, I suppose one needs to "pay to play".

But see, I at a deep spiritual level, feel that the Creator of the universe provides, that is called "providence" if I understand correctly. :hihi:

Furthermore, I feel that this Creator want's us, his creatures, to have abundance. Obviously, not everyone currently does.

Now, as for electricity and water... we should all have access to these things, in abundance, and I am sure we can.   :hihi:

Also, who created electricity and water in the first place???

I feel on a deeply spiritual level that this world is based on and thrives on corruption. That corruption has its foundations in control obtained no longer through force and aggression, but through commerce and monetary systems. Subscriptions reinforce that. Corporations and banks are the ultimate greed for power and control. Subscriptions reinforce that. I for one will not support subscriptions or corruption. It's your choice to do so. We all supposedly have free will after all!

Religion can be denied, but the mass corruption imposed upon humanity can and has been proven.

I respect your view, but I don't feel subscriptions are enforcing some sort of nefarious control.

I mean, just subscribe & recieve some cool modern software. :hihi:

Banks are part of the structure of society, but don't we need something like banks, or credit unions? What is your alternative?

Post

I sent a pm to avoid long posts here. All I will say is do your research, look into the banking system and how money is created. That's where it all started.

Post

Thanks, nice post.

But money is a tool really, it represents energy, doesn't it? The Bible talks about the love of money being an error.

Post

It does. But as I said, do the research. Your views cannot change until you update your knowledge with information. Information that is readily available to anyone who takes time to look.

I was also concerned when Jo first made licenses for life. But it's his software, his idea, so his decision. Subscriptions are not for users. They are for businesses to excel in their greed. That is their nature. You cannot be charitable in business or unselfish. It doesn't work in the long run. Hence why corporations are corrupt. They have to be to survive. Subscriptions support that idea, nothing else.

The problem with money is that the more you have, the more you want. Same with power. That's why this world is built on corruption.

Or, maybe implement what Reason studios does?
Optional subscription payment.

If one wants a subscription, go ahead with that.
And for who wants to buy with the conventional choice, there's by every version or lifetime.

Post

Implicitly there is a subscription option too: When a main new MuLab version comes out a user can upgrade to that main update only. Eg. from M9 to M10 or later from M10 to M11.

Adding an explicit periodical subscription option, would be admin / choice overkill imho. And i really wonder what the benefit would be. And if that would be the only other option besides M4L it indeed could also push away some users who really dislike subscriptions, which i fully understand.

For the next months I'll keep the shop options like it is now. (apart from the M4L price, which may go up a bit) And i'll invest time in MuLab Plugin VST3, more tutorial videos, and growing MuLab itself.
