What are phaser patterns?

Look at the video. Presets with different shapes/patterns for the harmonic filter that all sound a bit like phasers to me.

Thanks yea it sounds like it’s cutting out certain partials and then just sweeping up and down

Not exactly 'new ideas' when you're talking about Thorn, a 10yr-old synth which hasn't been updated in years. It sounds nice enough but it's hardly at the cutting edge. Even the preset browser is in dire need of modernisation.

To be clear, I mean no disrespect to Thorn's developer. I guess he has more pressing matters on his mind, considering where he lives...

From Thorn's user manual:

"The Harmonic Filter takes 128 harmonics from each Oscillator, applies a spectrum curve to them, and converts harmonics into an audio signal."

Zebra 3 does the same, using 1024 harmonics. It's within each oscillator though, so you have 4 of those.
Well I am looking forward to that. 8)

Not cutting-edge, but fairly modern I guess (Ryzen 5 4600G) - why do you ask?
I have the components to assemble, as I said, a "somewhat modern" Ryzen machine for a simple, modern system. A few synths and a DAW. I will be continuing to explore Linux. Dual boot? Windows on one drive, Linux on another? Cool! 8)

The goal is performance and stability.

Can someone give some tips to making this more cpu efficient on windows in fl studio. On my mac m1 I am taking it much further than my i9 pc. Something is weird. Maxed out the buffer and still crackles.

It could be "a bunch of things". Maybe with FL Studio.

An Intel I9 should be able to perform, right?

Having trouble with even one oscillator at times on an i9, it's gotta be fl studio settings somewhere. Having no issues on my M1, thick lush pads no problem various oscillator types

Yeah, I have known for years that there are alot of variables here, like with a DAW computer. I thought an I9 should "haul ass". :?: :?:

I am gonna be working on putting together a more streamlined system. Maybe instead of 4 Daws and 150 plugs...well how about 2 Daws an 15 plugs? :hihi: 8)

More simplicity, less problems.

Where can I learn more about the Exciter module thing? I can't find a Z3 manual and nothing's popping up on YouTube videos. What am I supposed to do with that thing? It has transience but can I link it with different modules to do different things?

You list Pigments in your signature. Pigments has a similar feature.

First half of this video is about improving CPU as part of the sound design process:

Thanks once again Urs, now I understand why Thorn's Harmonic Filter has a tendency to be, shall we say, 'unsubtle' :D Looks like that's another synth I'm going to be able to retire thanks to Z3 :)

I wonder if I should filling out a bug report or somthing. I can't play a chord at times with just a harmonic oscilator - no detune etc on an i9 pc flstudio. On my m1 I have never ran close to hearing any spikes no matter how complex the patch gets.

So, maybe the second half of that video if for you as well. Certain i9 CPUs have efficiency cores. If your host (or the OS) runs Zebra 3 on an efficiency core, you can easily go into CPU issues. You can test this with the method shown in the video, by forcing whatever to run Z3 on a performance core. If the CPU usage for the oscillator changes greatly with overall CPU consumption, you need to think about host, driver, OS whatsoever - but we can not do anything about it.
