What is it with the complaining about Fender adding amp sims to Studio One for free?
Pretty much all DAWs come with some synth plugins - do you see guitar players complaining about those?
There's a pretty efficient trick that I'll be sharing with you, IvyBirds: If you don't need amp sims, just don't use them. I know, for some people that's quite an ambitioned concept - but I'm sure you will eventually grasp it. Might take some years of practice, though.

Kinda get the impression that the fowl made of tusk is always arguing with folks. I would doubt there are many happy agreements to be had in his posts.Sascha Franck wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 12:35 am What is it with the complaining about Fender adding amp sims to Studio One for free?

You are amazing. People who constantly bitch about new features on music software are just not making music. They're online...complaining. and that's easier than being creativeSascha Franck wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 12:35 am There's a pretty efficient trick that I'll be sharing with you, IvyBirds: If you don't need amp sims, just don't use them. Life is just a Meme...(This has probably been used before. I'll work on this later. I promise I'm a creative guy!)

Fender can do what they want, but Fender is a guitar brand. They took the Presonus name out of Studio One and gave it a Guitar Branded nameSascha Franck wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 12:35 am What is it with the complaining about Fender adding amp sims to Studio One for free?

Then they added a bunch of features to it that are guitar related and made those features front and center and they are not free you only get those if you pay for an upgrade
Fender is clearly focused on guitar players with Studio One and want to leverage their guitar focused brand to have a guitar focused DAW
That's a great move for them, and I have no issues with it
As someone who owns Studio One it also however means I have no reason to pay for an upgrade
And also makes me think that Fender and the Private Equity behind them isn't a good fit for Native Instruments
Can you run Synths through a guitar amp sim? Sure. Can you plug a Minimoog into a Marshall Stack or an EV 5150 head and run those into a cabinet with vintage 30 greenbacks? Sure. But there are far easier and better ways to add chorus, eq and distortion

So you are saying the "company" still exists but has been through several owners over the years. How many companies of that age haven't been through similar changes? Also 1965 was when the rights to the Rhodes design was purchased and later released so everything CBS did was not disastrous. If a company does not try new things and adapt and change with times they will most likely fail.IvyBirds wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 5:23 pmThat company no longer exists and has been bought and sold by many entities over the years.psycho45039 wrote: Thu Feb 12, 2026 2:08 pm I thought Fender was an amp company that added guitars to their line up. Later on they added their electric pianos aka Rhodes. They also later on took over ARP and released synthesizers. So expanding their line up of products isn't new. The bigger question is can they continue to develop it which they failed at in the synthesizer market.
Leo Fender sold the company to CBS in 1965, CBS ran the company into the ground with poor quality and the pre CBS guitars became collector pieces
In 1985 CBS sold the company to a group of private investors including private equity groups. They ceased manufacturing in the USA and moved it to Asia especially Japan. That created significant issues and in 1987 they moved some production back to America with the Custom shop, and started production in Mexico
In 2001 a different Private Equity company purchased the company, after a failed IPO in 2012 the bulk of the company was sold to a different private equity company
All along from the moment CBS purchased Leo Fender's company different brands and companies that made different products were bought and merged into the company often with disastrous results

It's OK for Fender or any other brand to increase it's public personna. I'd love if Fender or other outfit would make a rompler/midi controller with the standard Kontakt lib as it's basis, and ssd sd usb connectivity for extra libs, perhaps a less complex take on the elderly Korg Triton Extreme

Yamaha is known for boat motors and motorbikes.
Neither should maintain a DAW. That just doesn't work.
There, I'm making sense, aren't I?
Seems to hurt a lot, doesn't it? All those mean drunken guitar players, getting all the sex and drugs and rock'n'roll things and what not already - and now they even have a guitar company branded DAW. Yeah, that must hurt a lot. Plus, guitar players have notoriously bad breath. They took the Presonus name out of Studio One and gave it a Guitar Branded name
So why do you pay for an upgrade when you don't want guitar sims? Then they added a bunch of features to it that are guitar related and made those features front and center and they are not free you only get those if you pay for an upgrade
Or could it be that there's other new things as well? Nah - it's certainly just guitar amps.
Yeah, and Logic smells like fruit salad whereas Cubase stinks like motor oil.Fender is clearly focused on guitar players with Studio One and want to leverage their guitar focused brand to have a guitar focused DAW
Oh, now you're finally making sense. Yes, I also always grab a Marshall stack if I want some chorus! Can you run Synths through a guitar amp sim? Sure. There are a few guitar guys saying that those plugs are useless to them too.IvyBirds wrote: Fri Feb 13, 2026 3:26 am The big new features in Studio One 8, opppps I mean Fender Studio Pro are guitar amp sims, and integrated Fender Mustang Guitar and Rumble Bass plug-ins
As a synth guy those are useless to me

Here's a question nobody has asked yet: there's a lot of code shared between products. How does that get managed? For example, if one company bought Kontakt, another bought Guitar Rig, and another bought FM 8, who would own Psyche Delay?

I can't see it being viable to break NI up in such a granular way. NI, PA, and iZotope would be obvious, but there's greater ecosystem integration across everything else. Traktor probably makes most sense to break free, but even hardware like Maschine integrates with many Komplete products.mumpcake wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 11:41 am Here's a question nobody has asked yet: there's a lot of code shared between products. The latest version of Guitar Rig has a few algorithms borrowed from iZotope if I am not mistaken.

Most guys familiar with amp sim plugins would indeed rather use something else.mumpcake wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 11:32 am There are a few guitar guys saying that those plugs are useless to them too.
However, as far as this very, seemingly "guitar centric", incarnation of Studio One goes, we could just take a look at how all this came along:
Fender aquired Presonus. That deal obviously included Studio One.
A while ago, they came up with something that is in fact a very guitar centric DAW, namely Fender Studio. Which is free and available for Windows, macOS, iOS and even for Android. Say whatever you want, that is quite a nice thing to have.
Them being rooted in the guitar universe, it wasn't exactly a completely unexpected "stunt" that they added several amp models.
Now, all this is important to know to understand why they also added some guitar amps to Studio One: Because you can load the projects of the free version 1:1 in the paid version.
Say whatever you want, that is just great. It's kinda like what Apple does with Garageband, just that the Fender offering also covers Windows and Android.
So, no matter what anyone may think about the Fender aquisition, their idea to put something like this out (that is also aiming at guitar players) is quite decent, pretty much regardless of how you look at it.
