Btw now you might laugh about me, I often use Xpand2 first when I compose a new song, it gives me a big choice of all kinds of different instruments with good quality and often I would keep the sounds or my Yamaha hardware synths.
I own Expand2. Don't knock it.

My next song that I'm working on is just for you. It's called "The Horn Blows At Midnight"

You want horns? Think Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire and Tower Of Power.

I'm up for the challenge.

DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 8:26 pm I know that performance, so awesome.

One of the greatest vocal performances is The beautiful ones from Purple Rain movie for me.
Especially the second part starting at 3:08, also how Prince played the Oberheim.
I can't listen to the second part, cuz whenever I do it touches me way too much, I can't even explain, his performance and singing simply is too good like from a different planet, too much emotion, passion and soul and he even could screan soooooo beautifuly.

In the history of "popular" music, there have been a number of unique voices. Prince was one of them. He left us way too soon. David Bowie, another one who left us too soon. Michael Jackson. Now that was a sad story.

Rock and Roll Heaven has got a hell of a band alright.

What I don't understand how is possible that I could listen to The Beautiful Ones and there are more Prince or other songs from back in the day, how could I have listened a 1000 times to The beautiful ones and I can still listen a thousand times to it again and it will still touch me so much each time.
How is it possible?
I've got a few songs like that too. I don't expect you to listen to this but this is my favorite Renaissance song of all time. Still brings me to tears 50 years later.

What a beautiful song, what a great arrangement.
You posted the best example of how the choice of instrument and quality of mix don't matter.
When the piano starts at 3:15, most listeners would say, that piano has not a high quality sound, but it doesn't matter, cuz the song is great, the piano is just some piano.
The 1970s really were a golden era of music.

24th track from my upcoming CD "And Now For Something Completely"

Finally put together a pop brass section the way it should be put together but was always too lazy to do it. Over 30 tracks and God knows how many hours make up this little tidbit.

The bridge when it seems to get slower and guitar solo part, nice. I told you use more horns.
I would like to hear something from you with a soul vibe, especially drums or maybe 70s disco with horns, well, maybe one day. You are a very good horn arranger no doubt.
First I thought the drums are a bit to dynamic, too lively or even aggressive for horns sections, but then after a while of listening I thought, why not, it is cool.
24th track, that's a double album.

Thanks for the listen and the feedback. 8 more tracks and it's done.

One other thing. 70s disco? Any particular group in mind? There were to many styles of disco in the 70s. It's kind of a broad request.

or early 80s like

even though the horns were played with synth sounds, real horns would be cool

Wow, these are all very different songs, especially "Best Of My Love". How about Bee Gees disco? Or maybe Van McCoy?

Bee Gees!
