If AI replaces musicians, does the entire plugin industry die with them?

The only fools are the ones who think that AI is going to bring the downfall of music and the end of musicians.
Except they're worse than fools. They're idiots.

No, just the end of industrial civilization. Mankind will continue to exist, just without industrialization and everything that comes with it - the good, the bad and the ugly. No, this can't be delayed or avoided without causing even more damage. The exact same applies to AI.Sourcery4545 wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:17 pm We talked about the end of the era of human beings - this is not some collateral damage.

I agree, AI isn't going to be the end of musicians. However, it might significantly affect whether and how musicians make money and what sort of talents are prioritized.wagtunes wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 12:33 pm AI is not going to be the end of musicians. The whole concept is absurd.

This is an excellent point. It may well be the case that the big artists or producers of the future are the ones who are best at operating or prompting Ai. Or in other words the most proficient at getting it to create what they envisage.pdxindy wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 5:10 pmI agree, AI isn't going to be the end of musicians. Personally I've never used Ai for music and at this point I don't intend to. The thought of it just turns me off. But is it really any different to when a producer hires in a session musician to play a part in a track that he/she can't play? Or any different to "DJ/producers" using ghost producers to write music for them? There's obviously a point to be made about potential loss of earnings for (in this example) session musicians etc, but otherwise I think not

well, it is called irony or sarcasm, has AI already been programmed to be ironic or sarcastic?vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 3:31 pmfyi you post more like an ai than anyone else here, are you a bot?DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:47 am yes, you will get your personal ai assistent there.

"a session musician to play a part in a track that he/she can't play?"
A hired session musician is supposed to be able to play what he is hired for.
I mean you wouldn't hire a classical pianist for a jazz session. Back in the day for instance James Jamerson played as a session bassist for Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Supremes and many more.
Marvin Gaye – "What's Going On" (1971): Widely considered his masterpiece, played while lying on his back.
The Temptations – "My Girl" (1964): An iconic, melodic walking bassline.
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (1967): Features a syncopated, driving line.
The Four Tops – "Bernadette" (1967): Known for its complex, intense, and driving rhythm.
Marvin Gaye – "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" (1968): A dark, intense, and highly influential line.
The Supremes – "You Can't Hurry Love" (1966): A perfectly crafted, driving Motown pop line.
Stevie Wonder – "I Was Made to Love Her" (1967): A fast-paced, melodic masterpiece.
The Miracles – "Going to a Go-Go" (1965): A prime example of his pocket playing.
Martha and the Vandellas – "Dancing in the Street" (1964): Features a distinctive, high-energy bassline.
Jr. Walker & The All Stars – "Shotgun" (1965): A straightforward yet heavy, driving blues-soul line.
Especially What's going on was something completely different and James mastered the challenge with flying colors. A session musician who can't play?
Toto were session musicians and they played the whole Thriller album, Eddie van Halen even played the Beat it guitar solo for free.
Billy Preston was a top session musician in the 1960s/70s, he recorded with Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and the Rolling Stones and many more
He played electric piano on Get back (The Beatles), If you want me to stay (Sly Stone) etc.
Stevie Winwood played for Lou Reed, Jimi Hendrix, and Tina Turner etc. as a session musician.
Organ on Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile.
Tina Turner provided backing vocals on several tracks on Frank Zappa’s 1973 album Over-Nite Sensation and the 1974 album Apostrophe, two of Zappa's best albums.
The list is endless...

I did post music in this thread? That's not possible, I don't make music, I make noise, to be able to make music you have to be a musician.vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 7:09 pmthat's a very "chatbot" reply.DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 7:03 pmwell, it is called irony or sarcasm, has AI already been programmed to be ironic or sarcastic?vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 3:31 pmfyi you post more like an ai than anyone else here, are you a bot?DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:47 am yes, you will get your personal ai assistent there.

Being a musician is considered a craft, well, was considered back in the day.

I gave one of the detectors a sample of my writing from long before the chatbot era. It said that it was 20% AI. So now I can truthfully say that I am 1/5th robot.vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 7:09 pmthat's a very "chatbot" reply.DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 7:03 pmwell, it is called irony or sarcasm, has AI already been programmed to be ironic or sarcastic?vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 3:31 pmfyi you post more like an ai than anyone else here, are you a bot?DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:47 am yes, you will get your personal ai assistent there.

Your post clearly shows it has been written by AI, probably an automatic reply, cuz it feels driven into a corner. I told you AI will control you, now we have the proof, no human would react like that.vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 7:09 pmthat's a very "chatbot" reply.DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 7:03 pmwell, it is called irony or sarcasm, has AI already been programmed to be ironic or sarcastic?vurt wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 3:31 pmfyi you post more like an ai than anyone else here, are you a bot?DCrown wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:47 am yes, you will get your personal ai assistent there.

Previous post 1/5 robot, Vurt completely lost control and is completely controlled by AI, everything seems to get out of control.
I am not going to share my opinions with AI any more
How can KVR ensure in future messages are not posted by AI?, they need to install a security system.

The end of civilization is so close, blind man and when a fool, can I replace fool with dreamer?wagtunes wrote: Tue Feb 24, 2026 4:23 pm The only fools are the ones who think that AI is going to bring the downfall of music and the end of musicians.
Except they're worse than fools. They're idiots.
When a dreamer calls other people dreamers, it might be time for him to wake up.
Why do you have to use such ugly language "fools", that's an insult, you might insult someone with emotions and feelings, not your every post might be addressed to AI (ai fake account or someone controlled by AI) , there are still 3 or 4 humans here in this thread, just a guess.

You really have to check out of social media if that's your goal. I get it, you can share less, and you can reduce identification risk, but you can't really opt out of this completely without going offline. If it's text, and it's on the internet, it's shared with AI.
They cannot. There is no filter that they could implement that could tell if text was written or re-written by AI.How can KVR ensure in future messages are not posted by AI?, they need to install a security system.
