I use Bitwig. Lots of tweakability there too.

Depends, When I worked several years in Germany, around year 2000, Linux Magazin and others were found in standard magazine sections of supermarkets. Other computer magazines also had Linux features. So it's no surprise really that both u-he and Bitwig are supporting Linux, and there are not Big Companies. Popular, but not corporate-big.

So it depends on the environment, the mentality.

I did years ago, when I was (and still am) running Linux. Vojtech even helped me solving a problem with MDrummer on Linux by providing debug versions. Since then I'm running all Melda plugins using yabridge and wine. I save projects often, as I always do with anything, just in case. This year I will get a new PC, new audio interface, and an updated Bitwig to version 6 and will continue to use wine and yabridge.

Can you talk a little about WINE?

I am ultimately interested in a native Linux system, but WINE is interesting, but it has issues doesn't it?

Also, has Microsoft expressed any position on WINE?

Note : I had no previous Windows software to port to Linux. No pressure from possibly loosing previous investments. I started from scratch with what I used at work : Linux.

I see no issues with Wine per se, as long as the version is the one recommended by yabridge. At least last time I did an installation, quite some time ago. It's actually with the adapter layer, yabridge that makes a difference. I used to run linvst prior to switching to yabridge, and yabridge is quite an improvement regarding the handling of the UI, and the communication between plugins. At this point I don't see why I would use something else than yabridge. But, I'll be building the software stack slowly on the new PC, no rush at all. I'd like to get it closest to what I want. I'll start with a headless Debian version, possibly following the Debian instructions on how to not have systemd in there. Then I'll install XFCE and any required packages. I'll keep it t a minimum. No extra unneeded services will be running.

From time to time there's a problem in loading all plugins, with MXXX and MDrummer taking a second load to be in there. Same with Synthmaster who takes a lot of time to load. Although that might be due to the current computer, bought some 13 years ago and having 16GB RAM and running off a hard disk. This time I'll get one with 64GB RAM and 1TB SSD, to which I will add at least another TB :

I'll also use a MOTU interface.

In the years I've been using the current 13+ years old computer I've never seen a crash with Melda's plugins. I've seen some though using previous(previous to the optimization that was done) regarding Tone2 synths. Not all plugins from a company will work. All u-he products do work of course in their Linux versions. But some Rob Papen synths simply have difficulties, so I leave those. No pressure in absoluting wanting to run a certain plugin. I have lots. All Melda, all Voxengo, all Sugarbytes, many Ron Papen, many IK Multimedia, even Harmor, Harmless. Morphine, Sakura and Sytrus from ImageLine when they cared about making plugins that can run outside of their own DAW. When getting new plugins, it's always important to try the demo versions first as product are not always developed according to a same framework. Which is not the case with Melda.

I use Bitwig as a DAW for creation and Mixbus32 for final mixes using exported audio tracks. Both are native Linux versions. Not sure if Harrison is still making Mixbus32C since they got bought. No problem staying with the same version I have. Doing the mixes does not need a lot of gadgets and creative features since the sound is the focus.

Hope it helps. If you have any questions, don't hesitate. Cheers.

Forgot : I haven't heard about any issues with Wine and Microsoft. Are there ?

Thanx for your exhaustive reply! :hihi: 8)

I will have to rest up, and read it more thoroughly.

So, I will ask again, where the heck is Vojtech? I feel he should be here communicating with us, super cool, solid Melda customers! Well, he used to, and I am disappointed now. Bummer! :?: :?:   :hihi: :hihi:
