Our original goal for Z3 was to come out with roughly half or two thirds the number of modules that we have in Z2, and build upon that over the next few years. But turns out, we managed to do way more than that, Z3 is almost "complete" from the get go. But some areas are still left for future work, and FMO waveforms is one of those areas. Mostly also because... CPU... we'll see...JoeLowery215 wrote: Sat Feb 28, 2026 5:43 pm True Urs! One thing I take issue with (kidding) is that Z2 let you pick other FMO waveforms but Z3 doesn’t. I’d love if you brought that feature back so we can do OPL2 sounds. I know delta x allows this but it’s more limited.
Plus, it was something possible on Z2 but isn’t anymore!

keep in mind every instrument here has been designed from scratch in a synthesizer that is not really meant to emulate acoustic instruments. wasn't PS1 sound engine sample-based? Z3 is not. I am impressed, even if this is not necessarily how I use Zebra.Lbdunequest wrote: Sat Feb 28, 2026 6:55 amIm sorry, i respect your effort but it does sound like MIDI ran thro generic soundprocessor that something like Playstation 1 has (think FF VII game)Rnaroth wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 6:55 pm Urs, I remember you mentioned in one of the threads that Zebra3 was not a physical modeling synth. I beg to differ. It is very much possible.

Just got this warning message in Logic when booting it: “Beta phase will end soon, please download latest content from u-he.com“ - so will Zebra3 stop working somehow?

When is soon? I wouldn't be surprised if it gets extended.
100 High Quality Soundsets: Omnisphere 2, Dune 3, Tone 2 Synths, Pigments, Uhe Synths, Halion, Spire, and others.

also just saw this- does this mean Zebra will stop working at some point? I am using it in active sessions so would be great to know how to get a full licence or what next steps are.Sampleconstruct wrote: Sun Mar 01, 2026 3:54 am Just got this warning message in Logic when booting it: “Beta phase will end soon, please download latest content from u-he.com“ - so will Zebra3 stop working somehow?

The current beta will stop working in May, so two months from now. Until then we'll have at least one more beta and, with a lot of confidence, a final release.

Would it be possible to include the build number (20399, 20552, 20xxx) into the reported plugin version? Currently both beta versions report a "3.0.0" version.
Only after closer inspection I noticed that on one workstation I was still using the older 20399 build versus the newer 20552 build on another workstation.
If the reported versions would have been "3.0.0-20399" and "3.0.0-20552" I would have noted the difference much earlier.

It is usually not so important since when things are not a beta, the version number changes as well.
The second beta is also not a vast difference, we just wanted to get feedback on the modulation system, hence we did not put too much effort in a advertising it.
The next beta will be more substantial, but I'm afraid still with the current UI. But at least, most - if not all - crash bugs fixed, most feature requests added and niggles resolved.

Wait a minute. I've always thought that Zebra 2 was pretty good at physical modeling stuff. (I heard some orchestral stuff that was very good.. was it the Dune soundtrack?) The new Zebra 3 must be even better with the comb/modal filters etc. But i do understand that it wasn't made as a pure physical modeling synth only.. it can do so much more. Dident the k.elhardt guy create some pretty convincing emulations using an Andromeda synth (?)sounjaerk wrote: Sat Feb 28, 2026 9:26 pmkeep in mind every instrument here has been designed from scratch in a synthesizer that is not really meant to emulate acoustic instruments. wasn't PS1 sound engine sample-based? Yeah... uhm... I'm fairly sure I might have said Zebra does not do Resynthesis. The comb filters, exciters and modal resonators are certainly great building blocks for Physical Modelling.

Few more comments on the Beta:
Can you add a delay option for the Vibrato?
I was using mapper for key tracking on the Sustain on an envelope...I'd love to be able to select all of the points in mapper and just drag them left or right.

What I want for the Mappers (especially for key tracking) is to be able to draw a curve over. It's too fussy trying to get precise results for key tracking.JoeLowery215 wrote: Mon Mar 02, 2026 5:04 pm
