I've just had a bit of time to play with version 2. So far it's been really stable and working great. VST3 instruments that didn't work in 1.4 are working well now. :tu:

That's good to hear :) I've put a fair amount of time improving the plugin compatibility and other stability related things.

Here's an updated Quick Start Guide I just got finished moments ago. Or maybe I should call it a proper manual, since it explains most of the things included in Precyne.

Hi Kraku,

I've had more of a chance to use Precyne and have to say I'm pretty impressed.

I've had a couple of issues. The sampler caused Precyne to hang one time which resulted in having to kill the task. Also, I've had a few instances where the arrow keys wouldn't let me move the cursor up and down in the editor. Moving left and right still worked fine. I haven't been able to reproduce either issue since so I haven't sent it in as a bug report. Just documenting it here in case anyone else has similar issues.

All in all, it's been pretty solid, considering it's beta, and a joy to use.

I'm sure you have a roadmap and lots of plans for Precyne. Here are a few things that I'd like to see, for what it's worth. It's also possible they exist and I just haven't figured out how.
  • Midi input channels for VSTs. It'd be nice to direct these to multi-voice instruments like VCV rack.
  • More output channels for VSTs. 8 stereo outputs is pretty good but a lot of instruments have 16 outputs or more. Of course, many of them are mono so maybe the option to split the stereo outs.
  • Record velocity when using a midi keyboard.
  • More aux sends on the mix channels. It seems to be limited to one at this point although maybe I'm missing something.
  • The automatic creation of a project folder when first saving a project.
  • There are a number of improvements I'd like to see for the sampler but I'm guessing they're pretty high on your list of to-dos already.

Thanks for all the hard work. Looking forward to see where this goes.

    Cheers.
    d.

On further use, it seems that clicking into the editor with your mouse sometimes causes the up and down keys to stop functioning. It doesn't happen all the time though. :?

Do you remember more specific information about this bug?
Were you using the Sampler's GUI at the moment of the crash?
Was the song playing? If so, was it sending note data or commands to the sampler?

Do you remember what the crash looked/sounded like? Did the song just stop and there was only silence, or did the audio buffer play it's content constantly causing a buzzing sound?

Regarding the not being able to move up/down sometimes:
When that happens the next time, see what the "Step Size" parameter is in the pattern editor.
If it has changed to 0 for some reason, then that's the issue.
If it is not 0, try changing it to some other value (not zero) and see if the up/down start working again.
Report to me your findings.
I believe this might be what's happening. In current Precyne version the pattern editor values seem to be changing when you scroll mouse wheel while holding Alt/special keys down, even though your focus is in the Timeline edit area. That's probably what has happened. I'll fix that so the mouse + special keys don't overlap when different screen areas are in focus.

2026-03-02 - 2.0.0.7:
- New updated HTML format manual is now included.
- Improvement: Empty notes (press "*" in note column) now also adds the active instrument ID into the instrument column.
- Bugfix: Changing keyboard octave (Shift + Mouse Wheel) while mouse cursor is over Timeline / Clip Launcher tracks now changes the octave.
- Bugfix: Pattern Step Size parameter (Alt + Mouse Wheel) doesn't change anymore when you are not in Pattern Edit mode.

I imported a sample. Cropped it. Adjusted the ADSR and Filter. Then I noticed it was only playing when I pressed the C key on my midi keyboard. I was looking for a keyzone setting and tapping my D key when Precyne just froze. I don't think I was even adjusting anything in the Sampler. As I said, I had to kill Precyne via task manager.

I think you're right. It probably was sitting at 0 when this happened.

Thanks.

BTW - I haven't been able to repeat the problem I had with the sampler. I've also noticed I can play every other sample I've loaded with all the midi keyboard keys.

Not reproducible easily. I will catch the bug at some point.
Good to know Precyne is still quite stable.
