Im slowly making a transition from Logic to Tracktion, and one problem I am frequently coming across is the audio crackle which sounds like the latency, though not sure if it is cause I never had this problem on the more demanding Logic 5.5.1.
Any Ideas why this would happen?

I'm working through this problem, too, and one thing that is working is to watch your levels. I noticed that behind the bigger vst gui's you can't see yourself red-lining the output.
I'm using a Tascam US-122, A M-Audio Keystation 49e, and a Guitar Port still trying to tweak things up.
rgcaudio's z3ta is cracking less when turned down, but just put all this stuff together, so trying to "work out the kinks".
Would like to hear from others on this.
BTW - all 3 pieces of gear USB - that wouldn't be a problem, would it? P4 2.66 with 512MB RAM 8 USB ports. (Dell)

Not sure about the tascam US122, but my US428 takes a lot of bandwidth on USB. 72% approx.

Start by setting the latency higher in the settings panel.
Edited: did not realize you are on mac.

One more: disable all unused inputs, outputs and midi devices. (amazing results)

I also get that crackling, however
only in a certain part of recordings (well, i've only really recorded maybe one full song so far)
I've done what's been suggested, any other suggestions would help! thanks in advance

There is crackling due to the latency set too low, and crackling due to clipping inputs/outputs. I suspect yours comes from the signal levels going over 0dB. Try to lower the master fader and see weather it goes away. Also you can try a limiter in the master fx slot.nickname009 wrote:I also get that crackling, however only in a certain part of recordings (well, i've only really recorded maybe one full song so far)

Yeah I get crackling in two places. One is when a the output of a channel is too hot, and the other is when I'm using a "demo" vst. Solutions for me here are obvious.

Could be disk access as well - I had this last week over a couple of seconds where there were several different audio parts overlapped. Once they were rendered the problem went away.

my emu 1820m will fully crackle to the extent its just distorting & nothing else (even just playing a single audio file with no filters on it)
i use the <hit F2 then F3> work around i think it resets the drivers when you go in & out of the settings page

I've seen the same thing. Low latency = crackle. Above a certain latency level never a crackle.AndrewSimon wrote:Start by setting the latency higher in the settings panel.

Yup--happens to me. Was told if I bought a better audio interface, I could reduce latency settings and eliminate most of the "static."Low latency = crackle.

Interesting, I've never tried that, though I had noticed - the problem gets worse the longer I hammer out a sh*tload of notes on my keyboard in an open vsti for, and going to settings and toggling between ASIO and DirectSound as the driver seems to 'reset' things and provide a temporary fix.djsubject wrote: i use the <hit F2 then F3> work around i think it resets the drivers when you go in & out of the settings page
Nonetheless, after I disabled unused inputs/outputs, disabled real time proirity mode, paid closer attention to levels, and stuck to Direct Sound driver I've been able to get the latency down to about 25 ms with fairly stable results (no crackling).
Ideas are bulletproof... I am not.
