Are you me? My drum workflow in Bitwig is almost (-Battery) exactly the same

There's always something that wants to fit outside of a well grouped Drum Machine. Might be a second kit, some recorded shakers, wanting the main kick on it's own channel, some synth/FX that end up needing to be treated like percussion etc etc

That’s why I made two MIDI note scripts for V8 and V9 to get some authentic 909 and 808 grooves. You can come up with thousands of combo possibilities with these. Have a look if you like:

I just realized that even the normal shuffle option doesn't seem to be displayed by the grid at all. i just picked "40% shuffle", and could hear the difference, so it did work. But the grid in the various note editors do not show the shuffle at all. That's pretty severe.

Also, I tried finding a corresponding "bitwish" for this, but only found a suggestion to implement this as Note FX, which I think is a poor solution. I think Groove Pattern / Groove Template support should be completely built into the engine in a native way, not hacked on top of a 4/4 rhythm using various work-arounds.

Regarding "what is this feature even called?", here's what this functionality is called in various DAWs:

• Logic Pro: "Groove Template".
• Cubase: "Groove Quantize Preset" or "Groove Preset".
• Pro Tools: "Groove Template"
• Samplitude: "Groove Pattern".
• Studio One: "Groove" or "Quantize Grid".
• Reaper: Not supported, but there's a "Groove Tool" thing that does this the wrong way (destructively).

So my final wish list for Bitwig is now longer:

• Please support groove templates / groove patterns.
• Make the grid show the shuffle (if selected) or the groove template (if selected).

Something like this would be dope. With also a groove pool with predefined groove patterns where we can save our own. And groove extraction.

Have you experimented with the operators and note fx?

You can get really experimental once you get the hang of it

Yes, I have. But such work-arounds shouldn't be necessary, and depending on how you do this, they have various draw-backs, mostly that the grid still just shows a straight 4/4 rhythm instead of the correct rhythm. Also, quantize messes up a bit depending on how you do it. And other approaches like automating the master tempo messes up tempo delays.

So I still think it should be fully supported, so that we don't have to do all kinds of weird tricks to get a custom groove pattern.

Bitwig 6 is out, but still no groove template support. And on case someone wonders what that is, here's a screenshot of a cumbia rhythm being used in Samplitude:

Notice how both the visual grid and the quantization functionalities all respect the chosen groove pattern template. I really hope Bitwig will get proper built-in support for this, instead of some impractical work-around like having to use Note FX or similar less optimal solutions.
