I did that this week... and is was terrible slow , and i didnt understand i ever worked with that crap....yoshi303 wrote:badly, mac books use AZERTY keyboards here....TristanMendoza wrote:Im thinking about buying a Razor Naga mouse sometime soon, I would map the side buttons to key commands that I use the most in Bitwig. One size doesn't fit all. I'm perfectly happy having things as keyboard shortcuts and can navigate very quickly that way. I've found FL's mouse heavy workflow to be quite slow for me personally.drakmaniso wrote:I don't think it can be faster, since it requires additional keystrokes between different actions, whereas with a unified tool every action consist of a single click or drag. Also, you have to remember which tool is currently active, which is a problem as soon as you divide between two tasks (e.g. to tweak the synth, or just try melodies on an instrument before writing them).polarity-dnb wrote:why not just hit 1,2,3,4 on the keyboard? much faster
Finally, it requires to use both hands. When step-recording will be implemented, being able to easily do everything with just the mouse will be a big plus: one hand on the synth/controller, the other on the mouse, leads to a very fast workflow. Even now I usually try melodies and chords on a mini piano keyboard before editing them in the piano roll. This leads to an awful lot of double-clicking (the pen tool is useless because it doesn't allow resizing)...

You're right. It also depends on the usage of the piano-roll: I think that for most people, it's just there to tweak what they have recorded. The problem with double-clicking becomes more important when you create all your notes directly in the piano-roll (e.g. if you like to create unplayable melodies). There's a reason the FL piano roll is often praised as the best one: it supports a workflow that other DAWs struggle with.digitalfix wrote:One size doesn't fit all. However, both method can cohabit: having one unified tool doesn't mean removing the more specialized tools. In fact the easiest way would probably to extend the pen tool so that it can resize and move notes; in order to do that you need to move its erase function to the right click. (I'd like to see a lasso selection also added to the right drag, but it's not as essential as the ability to resize and move notes without changing tools)

I don't like Click-n-hold, FL Studio has it and I have disabled it as I constantly keep triggering it when I don't mean to. Smart tools are better (depending which part of a clip you click, etc) and modifier keys to gain temporary access to secondary tools.

Back to square one with this thread. After all the emails and videos proving it's quicker to have a right click tool bar they added it, for obvious reasons, it's quicker and adds another workflow dimension for those wanting to work like this as well as adding more ease of transition for users coming from other daws with such a workflow. Then boom, V6 they removed it after almost a decade of having it. I'm curious to how the beta team didn't flag this an a massive issue.
For those who don't use this feature please don't tell us your alt workflow is better and we should do it like you.
At the end of the day what matters is flexibility within the workflow so you can work how you wanna work and then how good what comes out the speakers is.
So, for those who are used this right click pop up tool selector workflow what's your thoughts on it being removed in V6?

I didn't even notice that it was removed cause I never used it. It's one of those things my eyes learned to ignore.Bobby L'Avenir wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 12:24 pmI'm curious to how the beta team didn't flag this an a massive issue.

I am surprised they didn't leave it as an option in preferences (if indeed it wasn't just a mistake, the 'Cubase' inspired pop up menu used to be a bit of a selling point!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

The previous menu with text names would no longer fit since the number of tools increased from 5 to 7 (8 in the midi editor). Icons only would fit, so that's a possibility.SLiC wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 3:58 pm I am surprised they didn't leave it as an option in preferences (if indeed it wasn't just a mistake, the 'Cubase' inspired pop up menu used to be a bit of a selling point!
The right click menus have generally increased in size, even with the toolbar gone. There's still room though, so if enough people ask for it, maybe they will add it back.

Yes but the fact they totally removed it and left it out over a 6 moth beta makes me wonder if they actually use the app to make music, or just spend all their time coding it. I seriously doubt they had many users asking to remove it, just like nobody asked Steinberg to make their pop up tool bar a fixed size when for over 20 years you could resize it to your own taste. Then they had a whole bunch of complaints becasue it went off screen with the fixed size so they had to waste money fixing it, but still left it fixed size, could've just left it as it waspdxindy wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 4:39 pmThe previous menu with text names would no longer fit since the number of tools increased from 5 to 7 (8 in the midi editor). The only app i've used where i'm 1000% sure the devs use it to write, finish and release music themselves is Loopcloud, it's blantatly obvious to me. With bitwig i'm really starting to wonder and have for a while tbh. Still no midi capture, you try taking that from ableton users now and see what they'd do to you
No arranger track, still open cubase 9.5 for that, no groove pool, still open ableton for that. No video, not that i use it anymore but i see why people want it in such a super creative program and no ARA, again as someone working with vocals all the time i see that too. Also would be great to have timeline lanes to comp vocals quicker. For years we askled key scale lock in the piano roll etc but we got more blip blop music making tools instead and now we have got it, they take away things nobody asked to remove. Maybe they hired the same Steinberg devs

I'd like to see the people posting online asking for it to be removed so we can compare to the posts (ok mainly mine

The devs who make music, use the key commands. The 1-8 keys are faster for switching tools than opening a menu and making a selection. Especially the momentary key toggle option is sweet!Bobby L'Avenir wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 5:29 pm Yes but the fact they totally removed it and left it out over a 6 moth beta makes me wonder if they actually use the app to make music, or just spend all their time coding it.

Depends on how your brain works. I find that a lot of times using the mouse is faster since I don't have to move my eyes away from the screen to look down to the keyboard to know where to position my hand to press the numbers on the keyboard, especially when I now I don't need a momentary toggle. Just hold right mouse button, move mouse, release right mouse button. That's why I don't like the new spray can tool. To do things you could do with pencil tool and "classic" modifiers that I can reach without looking at my keyboard now I have to look down to switch tool, use modifier if needed and switch back. Just more hassle for no added benefit.pdxindy wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 5:52 pmThe devs who make music, use the key commands. But the real problem is not if one way is better then the other but the fact that 6 is messing with 10+ years of muscle memory for somebody.

Left hand midi keyboard (or PUSH 3) playing in notes or tweaking controls....right hand mouse (for me) is fastest- coming of either to use qwerty keyboard is a last resort for me when composing (aka experimenting and arsing about)
