Next month theme: ”Muzak”
Muzak, in musical genres that are also used in background music in elevators, department stores and sometimes at airports, or train stations or the like. In popular parlance often called “elevator music”. This is a common instrumental music that is composed to affect the listener in various ways.
Time limit 3 min
The track has to be instrumental

Post

Take it from this: Jobless composers, singers, musicians and studio engineers squatting in abandoned gas stations, hearing everywhere muzak and hating everything AI.
I don't record any instruments live, I construct my music.

Interesting! That's a combination we've never had before :help:
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

Wow, this is the same theme as in my very first KVR Contest, if I remember correctly. Might be 20 years ago :o

Will try to take part this time, for old times sake. Aiming for a 50/60s bossa-muzak sound since the concept seems to have died and been replaced by ordinary pop music.

I'm contemplating "The Girl From Ipanema" as an instrumental track for this month.

I'm taking the opportunity to learn a very simple new jazz chord progression, but for all its simplicity I still can't make it flow smoothly, so I'll simplify it even more to avoid even the slightest hint of abrasiveness.

Forgot the theme was Muzak, I did an instrumental. I made this below, not Muzak, never mind.
Start again.

Mine too! Oddly, I couldn't hear anything peak at those waveform spikes.

It just occurred to me, after listen to the entries, that Muzak is the stuff I usually have to listen while on hold. You are ninth in the queue.........your call will be...........

And ideally you should enjoy the experience. Sadly, the snippets of music they play tend to be short, and the sudden jump back to start only adds to the exasperating feeling of repetition, going nowhere. Proper muzak would evolve constantly for ages and give you the feeling that you're on a journey, not stuck in a line.

skipscada - I appreciate your enthusiasm for the genre. The brand Muzak has an interesting history and concept, particularly in early years when used to improve mood and productivity.

However, muzak is synonymous with bland and easily forgettable music even though there may be a high level of musicianship...some tracks are repeated and difficult to know if you are at the beginning, middle or end.

I tried 3 times to get a presentable track and I need a lie down.
