And what happens if someone has 4 machines registered, one or more is replaced/upgraded, and the server is not available?

It sounds like it would still be possible to activate the software on the new machine, but then why have registration slots in the first place?

Doesn't the mousewheel work for you doing that?

(tl,dr; it still can be registered and used completely offline, even if or when Tal as a company is no more)

Glad he cleared that up. His poor communication on this subject was the biggest problem, and now it seems like maybe it was the only problem.
I think I'll write him and get more clarification. I truly hope he's somehow worked things out so that things can still be used in case something happens to him. I'm really, really hopeful. I love his products! :)

See, I LOVE these sounds!! I just want further clarification on the copy protection.

Here's what's officially posted:
How does our registration process work?

The plug-in will ask for your license key when you open the user interface. Registration and use of the plug-ins are possible even if the TAL server is unavailable or you are offline.

From time to time the plug-ins connect to the server to verify the license and register the device, if necessary. If the server cannot be reached, nothing happens. This means you can continue using the plug-ins even in the future, whether or not the TAL server still exists.

The license can be registered on up to four different computers. You can remove registered computers at any time by logging into your account.
This is different than what was previously posted about the challenge response copy protection he was using. Did he change it? If so, I'm going to be really happy. But I want to be sure. (I will admit that it looks like he might have, so if it's true, it will be good news and I will start buying again). :)
I know this thread has gotten long.
up to this morning the previous FAQ was there.
I said to him a few people had concerns and I would suggest you clarify (not change, clarify) what you meant.
He did.
And this is what you are reading now.

Again, it's a horrible thought, and I don't wish that on him at all--he's a great developer and I wish him only the greatest of success. That said however, how does his company continue? How do you get your authentications once the server goes down? ....
read his clarified FAQ please.
If the server no longer functions your plugin will.
If it can't make a connection to the server, it ignores it and continues working as before. (your plugin that is)
rsp
Yes. I'm seeing that now. I'm really, really hopeful! :)

But indeed write to him if you have additional questions and concerns.
I am not saying things he didn't say to me. And my screen shot is from what is on his website.

You seem to be confused about what this is a model of.
We're talking about these, right?

https://patchstorage.com/roland-jx-8p-a ... -emulator/

https://sites.google.com/site/mlvst0/

Then you have u-he Diva, which can sound just like it and arturia's Jupiter 8 V, which is close enough.

So how many more do we need? It's not like the 8X P is the most amazing synth on the planet. And for $55, what I have currently are more than adequate substitutes.
You said you just bought a JX-8P emulator, but your links are only for a couple half-assed free ones that are obsolete, unusable and useless to most people. A VCVrack version made from assembling standard modules? I’m sure you could also dig up a Reaktor user module too.

Neither Diva nor any Jupiter model sounds like a JX-8P. You will not get the JX-8P string sound from anything else. If you’re just looking for a “close enough” synth then any analogue synth model is “close enough” to any other analogue synth model, if you don’t have standards.

So you probably do not and never have required the very specific and recognizable sound of the JX-8P strings or brass. In that case, perhaps a true and proper JX-8P model isn’t anything special to you.
Look, I'm a big TAL fan. I have almost everything they own, TAL Sampler is a workhorse for me, especially with all the banks I have for it. I could make 100 songs just with that one synth. And don't even get me started on TAL Mod. The thing is off the wall amazing.

What I just bought (I am remembering now) was one of those "download the ROMs" kind of thing and you've got a preset player for the JXP. Okay, so you can't program it but you've got the sounds. I'm sure you know the site where you can download all the ROMs.

Don't get me wrong. The JX 8P sounds great. $59 great when there are synths that are "close enough"?

I might end up getting it anyway but it's not like I'm all excited after just buying Swayed. I'll be programming sounds for that thing until the Apocalypse. Now THAT'S something to get excited about. Even Cherry Audio's Crumar DS-2 is more interesting as it's such a rare synth and nothing sounds quite like it. That's another one I picked up right away.

Roland JX-P?

I'd rather have a D50.

OK. So would that mean that if the business goes under the blacklisted keys would then no longer be blocked? If so, that makes sense, and is actually genius, because it only blacklists the bad guys and don't hurt the honest. That would be awesome!! :)

Exactly!!!
And if I decided to send my serial authorisations to 50 of my friends and say come use Tal stuff for free...
My friends would always have to remain offline for that to work.

Or what happens if some unscrupulous shady seller, decides to buy one license and sell it 90 times to different people unknown the buyers?
rsp
This makes sense. This is how ALL challenge / response needs to work! I wouldn't have a problem with challenge response if this was how it all worked. It's almost the opposite of how all the other challenge response works. :)

Then you won't be able to make it activate for the 5th time until you free up a slot in your account.
