Looks like sy.factory loads these data cards, and can export as MIDI sysex files in the licensed version, so you could get access to the patch data that way.beely wrote: Sat Apr 04, 2026 7:10 pm Note that not every card has SYX files alongside it for the patch/preset data - I'm not sure if the data cards containing the preset data can be loaded/imported directly (I don't think so).

Question on the sysex handling for waves for the SY77 (Sheaf will probably know):-
The sysex docs for AWM elements have three bytes for the WAVE number:
WSOURCE (0-2)
AWMWAVE (MSB 1 bit)
AWMWAVE (Low 7 bits)
I can't find what 0-2 refers to for WSOURCE (I guess 0 means internal/ROM waves, not sure about 1 or 2). I presume that the actual wave card ID is not encoded into the SYX (hence why you have to manually select the card when importing sysex into Swayed)..?
Edited: Looks like the "6" thing was a conversion issue, not related to the wave card settings, which is good news

That's right. The options for WSOURCE are PRESET, CARD or AFM (and in SY99 SysEx files there is also PRESET2). I couldn't find a field for the wave card ID either.beely wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 2:59 am Question on the sysex handling for waves for the SY77 (Sheaf will probably know):-

I can't find what 0-2 refers to for WSOURCE (I guess 0 means internal/ROM waves, not sure about 1 or 2), but also, looking at the SYX data for the expansion cards, it's usually set to 6 for card waves - does 6 generically mean "from Wave Card". I presume that the actual wave card ID is not encoded into the SYX (hence why you have to manually select the card when importing sysex into Swayed)..?
The presets that come on expansion voice cards do have this information somewhere, because if you insert a voice card and a non-matching wave card you get an error on the TG77 when selecting a preset. But I don't know anything about that file format.

sheaf, big thankz for the heads up on the Element copy routine, missed that.

How about in the free Form Edit mode? (p20 in the manual)banal65 wrote: Sun Apr 05, 2026 12:44 pm Hi sheaf, I am playing with the demo now for quite a while now and so far I am really impressed by this instrument. It sounds great and is easy to program. Very impressive.
As a longtime DX7 user I´m desperately missing one feature though or maybe just can´t find it. How do I temporarly mute single operators in the FM-Matrix? This feature is crucial for me when creating or editing complex FM-sounds and it is available on every FM synth that I know incl. the TG77.
Also I am missing a midi-learn option for midi-ccs and the possibility to send program changes. Good luck with that great project.
You can turn off the input here (do it for input 1 and input 2)
would that work?

Thanks for confirming. The "6" thing was a conversion error here with some slight differences in data format around that point. Edit: Yeah, figured it out now...sheaf wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 5:13 am That's right. The options for WSOURCE are PRESET, CARD or AFM (and in SY99 SysEx files there is also PRESET2). Exactly - that's what I'm hoping to find so I can fully convert the data card format into the SYX file. and this is the last piece to do... I figured that the data layout of the card format was likely to be more or less the same as the SYX data, and this turns out to be the case, apart from some details (eg, the data is 8-bit and doesn't need to be split across two 7-bit bytes like it does for sysex messages), and the wave source is one.sheaf wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2026 5:13 amThe presets that come on expansion voice cards do have this information somewhere, because if you insert a voice card and a non-matching wave card you get an error on the TG77 when selecting a preset. 100% Agree! Combining the Sheaf created samples with FM and throwing in a touch of RCM on occasion can all be accomplished within a stock SWAYED VST. There's no need for all those old roms.IvyBirds wrote: Sat Apr 04, 2026 8:36 pm Said it before and I will say it again, there really is no need to download and try to install Yamaha's IP you don't own or have permission to use from potentially shady places online
You have a wealth of legal waveforms and samples included with SWAYED that are so close it doesn't matter. As a very long term user of SY77, I am blown away by how good of a job Sheaf did with the sample library
I think people have this incorrect idea that if your get SWAYED the first thing you need to do is find the samples online somewhere and install them like it's one of the emulators from The Usual Suspects that needs a ROM to work
You simply don't. As it exists and comes it has an amazing sample library that serves the exact same purpose as the Yamaha factory library and accomplishes the exact same things
Beyond that just have a bit of patience and you will easily be able to import whatever sample you want in a short while from now
The Yamaha SY77 samples were not all that great in 1989 and 1990 and they really have not aged well in the ensuing 36 years

Yes. I was wrong. Now I've corrected my guide. Thanks help providing accurate info in the internet.jbraner wrote: Sun Apr 05, 2026 8:48 amWhy do you want to do that?Load the SYSEX bank from your drive and then ...
IMPORTANT! - Choose CARD (Swayed Expansion 1) and then ...
surely the sysex files that you load are going to use the factory waveforms (the swayed ones in this case) - so just leave this section alone.

No, this is not an option. Changing to free form and then going back messes up the matrix (see the 3 steps in the picture). It also would be to "uninspiring" for a real workflow. The muting and unmuting should be possible by just lets say a simple doubleclicking (or a right mouse menu) on the operator icon. Just the way its done for example in FM8.
I am sure that sheaf will come up with an elegant solution soon.

I'm just organising presets and I have a small request:
When you use "MOVE/RENAME" to move a preset to a different bank, it copies it (so the original remains) rather than moves it - so you have to delete the original one. There's plenty of room in that info area - maybe we could have a separate "MOVE" button as well as "COPY/RENAME"?
Thanks.

How do I do that, my posts always show the plain code. Maybe you could attach a plain txt-file with the correct code. Thanks.
