Yup, this is what I meant. Thanks. :D Depending on T2's feature set, I'll have to decide to go budget (Acoustica), full-featured (Audition), or neither (if T can do most of it).

Meanwhile, why not try it free for a month? You will get a feel for using an external editor from within Tracktion, which might help you decide if its something you'll do a lot (Audition), occasionally (Acoustica), or never at all (save your cash & go to the pub).

Sold. :D

Er... well... on the idea. Why NOT try it for 30 days? The only other budget option I was considering was NGwave, but I tried and did not like.

What about magix music studio for $80US. People say that the audio studio part is a lot like Samplitude.

I have an old copy of audio studio 5. It doesn't import higher that 16 bit waves or I would use it as it has more functionality than Audacity, Acoustica or NGwave from what I have seen.

The current version of music studio imports up to 32 bit floating point.

Is there anything for Mac OS X that is close to Adobe Audtion in terms of ease of use/power/compatibility? It seems like Audition is the tool of choice for many here but it is currently Windows-only from what I can tell...

Maybe try DSP Quattro
http://www.dsp-quattro.com/
Haven't used it, but I've heard good things about it. (I haven't used Tracktion either, but it's going to be hard to resist once v 2 is released.)
If you like 80s retro sounds, check out my latest tune…

Nope. Theres DSP Quattro which is a pretty good value, and also Bias Peak which is a NOT so good value. But both are pretty clumsy IMHO. Compared to Audition that is. They get the job done tho.

I had a peek, but it doesn't seem to offer (at least from the features list) true audio editor capability. There's a mastering suite, noise reduction plugs, etc., but I don't know that there's a pencil tool or quick and easy editing of individual .wav files. It's more of a multi-tracker, so I suspect you'd have to import the audio file, edit it, and then export it again.

Still, it might be OK for a 'mastering' solution or a final mixdown solution. Acoustica seems to be more what I'm looking for (or Audition except it's costly).

I really wish they had a demo of music studio. Magix audio studio5 from a few years ago has a drawing tool and the ability to edit vol and eq using user created edit points that can be moved about to create the type of envelope that you want.

I'm afraid to spend the $80US in a blind purchase.

I was hoping someone who has it might speak up.

Post

I just double checked and audio studio doesn't seem to have the drawing tool but it has other ways to edit at the sample level.

Still, how can I buy the new version without a demo so I will know what it does and doesn't have?

Post

If you want to take the "blind purchase" risk, don't forget that Audio Studio can be purchased seperately. I don't quite understand the website, though-- they made it seem like you run it from a virtual server, but I'm imagining that it's just a software download?

Customer support could probably answer that one. In which case, it'd be $39.95.

I noticed the e-version and it does look like it runs from a server (they talk about it always being available on line and how you save disk space)but it is a 30MB download.

I don't get it.

i used to use this audio editor and loved loved loved it..i'm not sure if its freeware or shareware but it's worth a looksee.
