I looked at competitors, Serum 1/2 has a separate tab to display the entire mod matrix, Pigments / PhasePlant doesn't have a dedicated mod matrix page. I will still display mod matrix, but when necessary:
for me the always visible mod matrix is the single best feature of Synthmaster!
The mod matrix was one of the things I liked the most about SM compared to other synths. But I can understand how most users have trouble with it. If you're looking at another synth, I'd highly recommend using PhasePlant as a reference.

I don't care so much about the graphics design, but I want it to be easy to access controls and their modulation sources. I'm still hoping for a oscillator popup where I can see all controls at once instead of having to switch individual knobs to a different function or right-click to access hidden features.

Good luck with the redesign.

That's why I will implement multiple interfaces (minimized, default, maximixed) for osc/filter/mod sources. this way you can fit whatever you are editing in one screen.

I will provide a separate popup page for the mod matrix as well, so that you can always keep it visible on a separate system window.

Why not just make a global default switch of it being displayed or not?
Separate system windows can be problematic for some.

There's already a global setting for displaying popup windows on a separate window.

I feel a circle forming.
I asked why not just make it a choosable default to show matrix or not without a separate window?

Here's how the new design will be: There will be at least 3 different views for modules & modulation sources: Minimized, Default, Maximized. Users will be able to choose which view to display. This way we can fit more on one screen (In minimized view, I can fit 6 modulation sources for instance)

We still have at least 2 months to finish our internal development + 1 month for external UI development -> at least 3 months.

Some of the oscillators have a ton of controls. Do they really fit into such a small horizontal space? Doesn't the oscillator get so wide that you have to scroll?

And for the minimal view, I'd suggest to make it really minimal like in Phase Plant.

love the direction this is going Bulent! Wondering though about all that unused space on the left with the buttons. Could these be integrated with the top nav bar to better use the space?

That space is not that small, don't worry. In maximized view, each osc will show all of its parameters without any tabs (that's my goal, no tabs in maximized view)

Yes that was in my mind as well, so this would increase # of view types to 4:

Minimized
Narrow
Default
Maximized

For the minimized view I need to figure out how to draw rotated text. That's how they do it in PhasePlant / Bitwig.

Done. In minimized view, you can bypass the module, access its view&edit menus, or drag it onto a modulateable control, but that's it. This might be useful when we want to focus on a module but minimize the rest to see all on the screen:
