Future-Proof also contains some patches using samples from older libraries which I re-edited, denoised, phase-aligned, leveled and truncated so that they would live up to my current standards of sound quality. Here is the demo for the patch “Lamp Mallets“ layering a multi-sampled glass lamp sampled at 3 velocity layers and 4x round robin with samples of a dumbbell plate sampled at 4 velocities and 6x round robin. Accompanied by the drone-scape “Open Galaxy“ which uses totally new samples in 3 spectral oscillators.

Hey Simon, your recent demos sound absolutely EPIC! I know that some people dislike the term “cinematic” when referring to synth patches. But I think that’s a perfect description for the types of sounds that you tend to release in your preset packs.

When I’m listening to your demos, I get mental images of vast landscapes, and themes that involve science fiction. I especially like the way that you take recordings of various real world instruments, and you give them a completely new life as content for whatever synth that you’re working with.

That’s a great skill. The results are always unique, very dynamic, and have tons of sonic details to be discovered. Obviously, the programming for this Future Proof expansion is coming along very nicely. And I’m really looking forward to release day! :tu:

Well, thank you for this uplifting feedback! I don't reject terms like “epic“, "cinematic“ at all when it comes to describing the patches featured in these demo tracks - that's the sort of music these sounds evoke in me and it's always rewarding to compose these miniatures after/during weeks of programming and sampling which is often a very technical, even robotic job.

And Serum2 really has so much to offer when it comes to transforming samples, using FM and PD (phase distortion) on samples can sound terrible but it can also yield fascinating and very usable results not achievable in other hybrid synths I know of. And the spectral engine really is one of a kind.

Ok, off to another day with Serum 2 and Future-Proof...
