I guess that depends on the person. I check FB infrequently, so I'm already "free."

I assumed everyone already did that. :) My main inbox is only for family/close friends and major financial stuff (bank, etc). This keeps the inbox pretty unloaded and spam almost non-existent.

Have done the same few months back, and music production still the same! felt so relieved.

I've been trying to understand what this thread is about, for a few moments now. To the best of my ability, it seems its about unsubscribing from junk email lists? Or something specific, such as the KVR digest emails? Its hard to tell.

At any rate, I dont use social media, I control my inbox and manage multiple addresses including a spam trap alias, and I give brand emails the boot once I decide they aren't serving any purpose. Its indeed freeing! I am in charge of what my family and I are exposed to, to the best of my ability, and I never feel chained to any brands that over-communicate.

I created ContentExplorer, it's a skin for Rainmeter. It includes many variations, one of which reads a folder with user created URL files. The skin uses these to check online for updates. It is pretty simple to do and works. It's a little quirky as it pushes the boundaries of Rainmeter and sites with java script aren't parsable, but there a Web viewer built into the skin for incompatible sites. Just spend a few minutes checking for updates whenever you want, done. Basic instructions are also included.

The only caveat is that you have to put the initial effort in to create the URL files for the plugins you use. I can show you how if you are interested.

Just search Rainmeter ContentExplorer. Ask on the forum if you want help with it!

I never subscribe to anything!

I just released a new app for this very thing, it works standalone as an informer, but if used with SyMenu, it becomes an auto-updater too.
Check out the app here on PortableFreeware.

Makes sense for me too. It's hard for me not to feel the fear of missing out while I'm constantly getting newsletters and notifications of plugin deals. If I wasn't looking for discounts on some of the plugins I still couldn't get my hands on due to high price, I would be doing the same.
