When bitwig 6 was announced i was honestly excited because modulations tweaks are big part of my writing process.
But, man, certain workflow changes are atrocious.
Let's start with the mysterious disappearing vertical faders in arranger mode.
Why? i 'm asking the question to bitwig developers, what's the reason of this? what's the workflow advantage? Training ears?
You'll be like "well you have the option to put back the horizontal ones". Great, but when i move the fader the slider won't show the db value so i have to look all the time to the fader in inspector. Honestly the fader in arranger was just fine in version 5, if you wanna force me to use the vertical one, well lemme see them! why do i have to hover my mouse to see this?
Personally i've got so used to mix this way, because let's face it, the mix view in bitwig is terrible, no resizeable fader, fx slot super small, you need a third monitor scaled at 400 to work in a decent way...
Then we go with the infamous "expression overlay" button, hidden like a ninja and where now, if i wanna access to "stretch, onset, transpose" etc, i have to right click, or hold click to choose the expression from a dropdown menu.
What was wrong with the old expression menu?
Now to have a decent workflow with this i have to map to the keayboard or midi controller. Please go back to this.

Rant over for now

That was way too short to be a mega rant!!! :x
:)

I like the Bitwig Mixer since the Mixer update. The tracks can be adjusted to a narrow size, and yes, the faders height can be resized.

Eh eh, personally i never liked the bitwig mixer and well having the faders like they used to be was my way of mixing.
But yeah you right, maybe too short of a rant, lemme add one more thing, that's a good one! there's no layout memory relative to the track size. Let's say i want any new track with this lay out including panning, input and out. When you add a new track you have to resize it. Everytime

For sure it would be useful to be able to set a track default.

Some people keep a project in the side browser to store track templates. If the project is saved with the tracks at the height you want, then when you drag the track in from the side browser, it will keep that height.

I save empty clips (Clip Launcher) to use as track templates (including devices) cause those can be part of favorites or collections, saved as default. The height of the track when saved will be remembered when I drag the clip back into a new project.

I would also like to have default channels like ableton, every time when i insert an audio or midi track, it would show up with the plugins i saved it with

People actually look at numbers on faders. Noted.

Of course they do, that's why they used to have those little lines next to the faders, some way of judging in your head where things were. I know we also have ears, but a visual idea of relative levels is also important.

Make the faders smaller and get rid of the lines then the numbers become important.

Perfectly said, thank you

I always looked at Bitwig as the escape path if Reason got Gibsoned (read up on Opcode Vision)
- BUT -
The moment I tried the B6 'upgrade' I was WTF, it not longer felt special, just a bit of a mess. I was lost. Ok I didn't give it a lot of time, but I might as well have been in cReaper, CubeAss, Fender Won, or any of the other same-same DAWs for its sense of mess of feature splatter and lost workflow.

Then R14 is announced and they too are pushing further down the #metoo path. Not that I have been able to try that one yet and usually Reason updates are more great than bad (LANDR).

There will soon be no sense past GUI colors - in which cReaper winz - to have any more than one DAW in the whole market.

CubeAss is really good.

Had a cracked version of Cubase SX as a young folk and made my best music with it I guess. So definitely really good. Bitwig V1 then was very limited and it was a looooong road to V6 and quite expensive...

Okay, Logic by Emagic on my Win98 PC was also very cool. Can´t really decide which was best...
Had no clue how to use a compressor or a limiter, Youtube wasn´t there to help. Wild times.
The average bored guy

It has project wide scales, but does not let you customize and use your own. A huge oversight for a DAW all about flexibility.
