That was a bug. Your reply on M10.2.15 made me realize that. Thx.

I found this issue yesterday during rehearsal, so I can't tell you what's the variable.
Anyway, playing a project and MAYBE playing some MuDrum sounds with keyboard/pads.
No news on this?
Sorry for the delay, but I've had a busy week :o :o
I can confirm that, while I'm playing back a project, after a random tempo, the MIDI becomes unstable with stuck notes and parts that either play or don't play.
Usually, just clicking PANIC fixes the issue, but some MIDI synths remain with notes with infinite sustain.
It happens to me with all projects.

Post

Does it also happen when doing this:
  • Launch MuLab 10.2.14 or up and choose New Project
  • Simply play Basic Synth from your MIDI keyboard
Can you also repeat the stuck notes issue?
Please try sufficiently hard as this is an important test to narrow down the issue.
If it happens please also try the same test with the MuLab 10.1.

I can also report this:
Using the above test i tried to repeat the issue by playing MIDI input using a Impact LX 25+.
When rapidly playing random notes and also moving the mod wheel at the same time, from time to time i got a hanging note. I double-checked the raw MIDI input data with the debugger and indeed sometimes MIDI note messages were simply not coming into MuLab. That's at the very raw midi input that comes from the device driver. Then i checked in 3 other daws, the very same issue. It is independent from MuLab and i assume it's a bug in the MIDI driver, maybe related to running status. Then i checked the device driver for Impact LX 25+ and Windows tells it's up to date, and i saw the device driver is made by Microsoft. So maybe this is a more widespread issue in Windows MIDI? Anyone who knows more about this?

Post

I'll do all the tests, by now I can say you that every project or new project, WITHOUT INPUT MIDI so not playing keyboards but only playing back a song/arrangement, at certain point start to get crazy
some note disappears, some notes stucks open ...

Post

The past week i also tested playing projects without MIDI input, no problems detected.

So lets try to narrow this down:

Can you / anyone repeat stuck notes or other odd issues using any of the demo projects?

If not then it sounds like this is a project dependent issue.

Then select the most simple project that does repeat the issue. Then remove all plugins from that project as long as the issue still repeats. Goal is to make an as simple and light project as possible that still causes the problems you describe. Then please send me that project together with a description what i have to do to repeat the issue.

If you don't have the time to simplify the project, then send me the project as is, as long as the issue is easily repeatable using a step-by-step description.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature. Using Mac. In Preferences, I've set Audio Recording Type to WAVE. When I freeze a track with Render to Audio Track(s), the resulting file is still AIFF.

I know I'm probably a weirdo in this, but in 25+ years of audio on Mac, I've never used AIFF and find them more of a nuisance than anything.

Also, is there a way to render just a MIDI clip rather than the whole track? I don't see anything helpful in the context menu. Again, this is my usual workflow for wimpy CPU machines.

Edit: using v10.1.23. Just noticed 10.2 beta now available for Mac.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

That preference is only used for recording, not yet for exporting, but will change that.

I'll have a look at it.

Is MuLab 10.2.17 working fine on your Mac?

So far, so good. I'm making a minimal, very portable setup on little laptop with an old CPU and getting into some things I haven't used before.

About rendering single midi clips, just tossing the result into the media browser, or specified folder, would be enough. Thanks very much for taking a look at it.

Oh, if it's about exporting a single clip then that's already possible by simply selecting the clip(s) you want to export as audio and then do Export Composition As Audio File.

I don't see that anywhere. I'm right-clicking on MIDI clips, which I guess are Sequences? Sorry if I'm conflating terminology. I want to render them to audio, with or without effects, to arrange with.

  • Select one or more clips
  • Composer options button -> Export As Audio File

Perfect! Thank you!

Also, why have I never noticed this menu before? 😅

HI:

1. AUDIO-Problems:
I sent you a video because crackling and "audio will be lowering" if click on audiocable.
simple to reproduce.

2. You wrote in mulab-mux-change-log: "mulab-mux-change-log":

-> "Fixed a serious timing issue on the output events coming from a VST3 plugin." <-
BUT: in the actual version 10.2.17 (MAC) it isn'nt fixed. (Tested with STEPIC-VST from Devicemeister). The same bug like I wrote you a long time ago. (delayed Midi-Output while MuLab is in recordmode)
