I still run W98 - I hope T2 will be compatible! ?

Wow I can't believe people are using W98.
I put that nightmare behind me long time ago.
:hihi:
No seriously W98 was the last unstable operating system.
W2000 and XP are just simply in a different league.

so...... snap out of it!
You will thank me later.

win 2000sp4 is a good upgrade to much bullshit in xp, its good for the internet but i hate it on studio builds

Win2000 SP4 here as well.. rock stable, does what I need, no bullshit eye-candy, no complaints.

XP can be good, but I hate the bloody mac-ripoff GUI. Screw that! :hihi:

Get XP and then trim out all the unnecessary crap with XPlite. Kicks every other Windows distro in the nuts, and then laughs at them

XPlite is at http://www.litepc.com/

Win98 with 98Lite Micro install was the shit!

BUT...

if I managed to get XP to load in a whopping 34M of ram with full networking enabled (don't ask me how).. and have it undoubtedly more robust and stable than Win98... then I think it's time to...

just let go...

i want to leave 98 too, but my system is amd 450 256 ram, a very poor machine ..so i wanna take advantage of all resources to work whit audio, if i install xp ( and i don´t even know if i can), will i loose resources , memory or whatever ...? XP needs more of the machine than 98? a lot more ?..will my system get even slower if i install XP over 98?
thanks.

..well, im not a T user but i hope it supports w98..

T1 likes 98 just fine.
However, Tackywrapper does like 98 at all...
(I know you don't really care, Mod. Just thought I'd point this out!)

I actually just upgraded to XP recently myself, but not because of probs with 98. 98 was rock solid for me as a DAW. I simply wanted to use some tools that were XP only

Fortunately, the experience was uneventful.

To me, a Win98SE user,

I have avoided the following:

1. All of the crap about the security issues with XP - the hackers seem to want to poke holes in XP and have forgotten about humble little 98, still being used by millions.

2. I refuse to spend $100 on XP, when all it takes is about $399 to buy a new machine from Dell, with XP already loaded. I would almost assuredly need to buy more RAM for my current Win98SE box in order to run XP AND anything else. So now, upgrading to XP looks like a $150 charge at least, instead of just the $100 XP upgrade.

So, if T2 requires XP, then my upgrade price just went up about at minimum $150, upgrade price to T2 notwithstanding.

Here's one vote for Win98 support - or I guess it's just time to pay the piper and buy a new PC.

rockstar_not:

www.zipzoomfly.com - they'll sell you oem versions of Win2K and XP if you buy it with hardware (a $2 cd audio cable will do).

About half the price of the retail versions.

Valley,

It's $89 at the website you mentioned. Add on a minimum of $50 for another 256 MB of memory which I'm told is necessary to make XP work happy with RAM hungry apps like sfz, and it's still looking like a $150 charge with shipping charges included.
