-What the hell path are they supposed to be in?
-Why did they seem OK when I first tried it, but weren't OK when I re-loaded?
-What is the "use default folder" function? A cruel joke? WHAT default folder? Where is it? What should it be called? :D
-Why oh why oh why can't you just "define" where the factory presets are? Point the way, so to speak....

It's not like it's mission critical for me, but it's one of those things-- I like solving problems, and this one doesn't seem to have a logical solution. For some people it just 'works' and for others (ie. me!) there doesn't seem to be any way to get the Factory Presets to list properly where they should.

Greg,

In my last 5 months of using T, I have had this happen to me two or three times - where the presets come up missing.

I use a RAM monitor, and I think that sometimes, it decides that the RAM that might be used by preset - holding feature of T (sometimes presets for VSTi go missing) can be released to general use.

If I turn off the RAM manager, then reload T, then all seems happy.

Any chance you might be using something like that?

Didn't you send an e-mail to Mackie about this Greg? I mean, each time this bug was mentioned, Beno kept silent, even to the extent of completely ignoring any reference to it in the FM for Mac thread, so I thought this was a known bug and that Mackie were actively working on a fix.

Well lets put it this way. I posted a support request in the Tracktion forum on the Mackie site specifically about this problem on Aug 18th. I am still to recieve a reply about it apart from one other user who had the same problems, emailed Mackie and hadn't had a reply either. I bumped it twice a couple of weeks later then gave up.

Now I have XP with my new system they load OK though so maybe it is OS related too - my old system was Win2K.

I've not used it really anyway so I wasn't too bothered - maybe I would have if it worked properly though.

I'm probably unlucky, 2 Win XP pro sp1 and 1 XP home sp2 here, all three with the same disapearing presets problem, sometime I can see them on the list, some time I can't; sometime they just disapear in the middle of a session for no apparent reason. Yes, I can always load presets by navigating from the menu button, but it's not as convenient.
I wonder why mackie's completely ignoring this issue.

Yes same problem here with win 2000 SP4.

I DID contact Mackie. A seemingly helpful fellow indicated that it was being looked at as part of a strategy of "tighter integration of Final Mix with Tracktion", but it seemed like a T2 thing. My concern is that the Mac version has the same problem, which implies that it has NOT been fixed yet. Since Final Mix presets are stored in a proprietary format, it's the plug-in's responsibility to manage them, and not the host's.

Hence, the syllogism completes with the conclusion that it has NOT yet been fixed.

To answer the other question-- nope, no memory management program installed or in use.

It's not the end of the world, but like I said-- it's one of those things that was annoying me simply because I couldn't solve the problem. If everyone else agrees "It's f**ked and there's not one clear way to deal with it." then I'll leave it and move on to more pressing issues. ;)
