It could be seen that way, but it's a great quality of life release.

The UI is snappier, feels more solid, no little lags. Easier to select, move and resize clips in the arranger.

Just try it out if you think it'll only be cosmetic. You'll be happily surprised.

Yup... just 3 things, the smaller clip headers, the ability to see grid lines through the clips (and have some control of the grid line appearance), and being able to select time in an automation lane and raise it up in one move makes v6 worth it.

The only thing I ever do in the arranger is drop one single recording at the front of it when I'm editing. Which I do for maybe 20% of tracks (most of my editing is in Sound Forge). And the automation curves I use tend to be pretty simple.

I'm still covered for updates until a couple of weeks after the official release date, so I'll be upgrading regardless. I just have low expectations :)

Seriously, this is what the project I just finished with this this afternoon looks like now that it's finished:

I had the transport running for the entire process of working on the track, so Seqund would loop and I'd get timed triggers in the Grid. The two Seqund instances in this case were only sending triggers and non-pitch CV to the modular. I had Eurorack sequencing otherwise. No multitracking, but I did have a recorded part that played back from a Grid instance. I hit Master Record, stomped pedals and wiggled faders, and then hit Master Record again when done. Zero use of the Clip Launcher or Arranger. This is typical for me, except often I don't even clock the modular from the DAW :)

Does anyone testing beta with CPU without AVX2 support?
Happens I have i7-3770, and now I am wondering whether Bitwig 6 will run on my machine or not?

Post

Now I know, Bitwig 6.0 is not running without AVX2 support.

Just installed V6 and that was a lot of changes so i can see why it took it's time before it was released.
Now i have to relearn the whole thing and figure out the new functions :D

Post

From release notes:

Drum/Hybrid Editor revamp
The Drum/Hybrid Editor (previously the Drum Editor) has received significant improvements.
The lanes now automatically resize to fit everything on the screen, when possible. (Small lanes can also be zoomed in, when desired.)

Does anybody know how to zoom in to small drum note lanes? If i have only two lanes then the height of notes is incredible/ridiculous huge. I cant seem to find a way to zoom at all!

Yeah I guess I'm glad I've kept waiting to register for that Bitwig Circle free 6 months of Sonic Academy Bitwig courses---they've kept extending the deadline for registering. Hopefully they'll have courses on the new features in Bitwig 6 up by the time I actually register. Though I'd prefer a textbook with embedded audio and video (and exercises); and in the not so distant future I imagine in-DAW AI tutorials using spaced repetition and agentic AI demonstrations might become standard (before we get midi comping?...).

Check antivirus quarantined files. My moved one of the dll files and I could not start the audio engine. It took me two days to figure out what is happening.

Why TF did they remove the "onsets" button? Now if I want to see clear lines going down from the onsets do I actually have to slice at the onsets? What absolute BS.

Post

I also don't see any way now to move the onsets without first slicing, and then moving the onset markers moves the audio instead of moving the time location of the onset markers relative to the project.

Post

Okay, I figured out how to do it after reading this thread from the beta, though the icon has changed:

viewtopic.php?t=627924

So you have to left click and hold on the little clock icon ("Expression overlay") in the bottom left of the detail editor panel to get the menu to pop up. Then there is an "onsets" option.

Pressing the F1 shortcut for help while hovering over that area does not display help information, and there's no manual, so how TF were we supposed to know that?

They didn't remove the Onsets option, they moved it to the (now somewhat hidden) Expressions Overlay menu.
