PSP Vintage Warmer paid update

Vintage Warmer was one of the first plug-ins I bought back in the day, and I've used it on countless projects. I'm sure it's paid for it's place in my plug-in folder many times over at this point. I don't mind sending PSP a few bucks for an update. They've provided excellent support when I needed it, too.

I purchased it in 2023 and have been reluctant to use it as it was causing stability issues in Ableton. I noticed the other day that it was updated and specifically to address Ableton issues. I was thinking “neat, I’ll give it a go” and was surprised to see a $10 update fee. So, not such a no brainer for me. For those that feel it’s a no brainer — good, I’m happy for you. You’re valid to feel that way and I believe I’m valid to find it off putting.

Long time PSP customer and this is a bad move by them. I actually just bought VW2 last year and now they want another $10 for no added features???? Doesn't make sense to charge recent buyers for this.

there is no coincidence here. i saw your aka and i used "Rasmus Klump" to ironize my mistake from your eyes and your mistake from my eyes. my mistake was to open the thread, instead of waiting for PSP Audioware's emails. Your mistake was to use my comments for a typical KvRAudio wanking, which i dislike. if you want to discuss this any further, please send a pm.rasmusklump wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 4:04 amI think I see what you did here, but I may be wrong and it's just coincidence....mellotronaut wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 2:31 pm now i've got them. not so many oddities anymore. sorry for the rant! anyway i'd like to have an updated version of N2O with a big screen and a better browser.

Right. Had they included a few different new gain algorithms, even if they pulled them from their other plugins, I’d have jumped on it, but considering the version I have seems fine in Bitwig 5, it’s really just charity.j olhorst wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 5:02 pm Long time PSP customer and this is a bad move by them. Yes - really!
It might be fine for people who’ve owned this for 15 years, but I bought it just 13 months ago. Can you explain why I should have to pay again for bug fixes within this short period?
I expect maintenance updates for at least 4–5 years. If that’s not something you can provide as software-company, customers should be informed upfront.

i'm on mac os 13 and the intel computer from 2017 is not able to handle os 14 and upwards. there is neither enough money to buy a new computer or a newer refurbished one, nor do i want to buy one. i'm sure, the next full Ableton version won't support os 13; no more Kontakt updates from 8.8, although i paid for Kontakt 8 in 2025; no Absynth 6 with a bigger GUI; no recent Izotope stuff etc. call it freedom. the end of the plugin circus as long as the computer works and there is no blackout.

A single-plugin subscription so to speak, if you look at it like that...mcbpete wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 12:51 pm Just checked when I purchased Vintage Warmer 2: July 2017
Yeah I'm OK with paying less than £1 for every year of use to get the latest version !
maybe that's going to become a thing now? (Count me out though...)

I have less of a problem with charging for this update than I do with the price for the same update increasing. There is no reason to do this other than to use FOMO marketing tactics to get people who don't need the update to purchase it.
Intro sales make sense; they're a time-limited discount to get people to demo the plugin and offer the chance to save some money as an early adopter. But the issue here is that you have people in this thread saying their version works fine and that they don't need it. It's one thing to always have that upgrade fee there for the day when they do need it, but the price increase is there to get extra sales from people worried about future-proofing a plugin that works fine for them.
I get PSP's perspective: they have to put time into updating this very old plugin instead of using that time to make new ones. But this pricing strategy, and knowing that I might be put into a similar FOMO situation with any of their other plugins, really puts me off them as a brand to be honest.

Yes, we consumers should not pay for bug fixing. Features, even small ones, that's fine.htothehza wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 4:44 pm I purchased it in 2023 and have been reluctant to use it as it was causing stability issues in Ableton. I want the same update to N2O!!mellotronaut wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 2:31 pm anyway i'd like to have an updated version of N2O with a big screen and a better browser.
I understand why the paid update annoys people, especially if they recently bought it or need the bug fix. I have pretty much all the PSP stuff and just update to the latest Total Pack every year or so, that's cheaper than getting stuff when it comes out.

I bought the update to support psp, but uninstalled it after less than a minute.
Boy, does anyone who bought this really think that stupid favorite system was a good idea?
The last thing I need is even more wasted screenspace above the actual plugin window.
Please make such nonsense optional!!

Unless they've changed it again, the presets have been in a strip at the top for a while on quite a few of their plugins. And they used to be at the bottom, so I'm not sure that much has really changed. This is also normally where the A/B and size controls live.rasmusklump wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 10:37 am I bought the update to support psp, but uninstalled it after less than a minute.

Edit: Oh, OK there's an extra bar on it now. Email them to ask to make it an option if it bothers you.
