Hi,

Ive been following the Micrsoft Discord Musician group. Microsoft have had to come up with a midi utility to repair the damage done by their changes to win 11. Quite a lot of devices were broken. It also deals with the Korg driver issue by cleaning the registry with a special tool. This assumes the user follows korgs process of removing their drivers first, these drivers have always been an issue having needed to occupy the first ten slots for midi devices. This worked for me.

Other hardware affected have been MAudio gear. But these arn't the only two manufacturers. Many others failed. Other issues in Microsofts earlier release were to do with the midi services not running at the start of a Midi session or at boot.

For the Microsoft utility see here >>

By the start of June 26 all win 11 users who update their devices (Windows update) should have an improved midi implimentation. The next step by the end of July is to enable the user to choose Midi ver 1, Midi ver 2 or both in Win 11. Midi 1 alone is a fall back if all else fails.

Pete Brown of Microsoft has done a summary of the new Midi 2.0 protocol.

'MIDI 2.0 natively offers bidirectional communication, automatic device discovery and protocol setup, uncapped speeds, intentional high-resolution controllers (no 0-127 limitation or multi-message workarounds for larger values), per-note articulation, self-describing devices, and a decoupling of the protocol from the transports enabling easier adoption of new transports like Network MIDI 2.0 as they emerge.'

Hmm, well if that registry cleaner works it will solve issues for lots of people. Then again rebuilding windows into a major update like that is a good systems administration philosophy, so most people might just want to rebuild anyway.

I must say that after re-install of Windows with new MIDI 2.0 all my MIDI problems are gone. Specially with the mioXL needing reboot prior to that.
But, I don't have old gear or Korg USB crap.

I always had issue with (only) Bitwig on deconnect-reconnect MIDI devices on Windows.

Note: there is a "Restart MIDI Service" button in MIDI 2.0 utilities.
