This might be considered bit wimpy for these parts, but hey

I'd be grateful to know what any listeners play this back through and how well the mix works (or not) . Ideally you will be wearing my headphones, playing back though my DAW, sitting on my sofa

I have the pleasure of listening via a UE Boom in an almost empty room whilst waiting for a trailer to take my possessions to the dump. Yay. Perfect timing for a waltz.

Doesn't exactly leap out as a waltz, as in that clear ONE two three, ONE two three thing. Yes, it appears to be 3/4 or
"Waltz Time", but it slurs so much that the rhythm for the dance is muddied up. I say this as a former dancer - Rock & Roll, but the learning applies.

Mixwise it was ok bar as I noted already, it all rather slurs - the singer with no diction and the violin that pushes over the phrasing. Also I think (and this is on a UE Boom) the low mids are too unclear as in perhaps to full and not defined enough. Maybe too much decay or verb on those. Or just again not clear rhythmic programming.

If you hadn't called it a waltz, I may have been a bit less definite, but still, too Hipster-slurred for my older preferences.

I enjoyed it. Kept on expecting some 90's lyrics

This was wistful, the feel of the rhythm worked for me—overall a nice track. I did expect some lyrics as well.

Older, hey? My own conception of a waltz is somewhere between Brahms and Tchaikovsky... I had no issue with the rhythm or the choice of the term "waltz" here. Possibly could use a little more swing and sway to it (achieved by being lighter on the third beat of the bar)... but if you're going for wistful, then maybe you don't want to emphasise the rhythm so much.

For my taste, the high guitar notes and the vocals were getting in each other's way a little, and I wanted to hear a little more of the cello. But overall I enjoyed this one.

it sounds really bright lush and wide. Maybe a tad too reverby?
Agree that it doesn't feel like a waltz, despite the timing being right ;)

overall very nice and atmospheric, nice singing too

Nice! Very lush and vibey. No issues with the song, but the mix is a bit too full in the lower and upper mids. You could EQ chunks of the spectra out to make room, but what I do is use Waves' F6 EQ to dynamically carve out bits using a side chain. So for instance, the bass and cello are stepping on each other. Look at the cello part in a spectrum analyzer and see the overlap. Focus a band at that point, probably the lowest bit, and have the bass track dynamically remove those frequencies, but only when they exist together. You can also find the parts in the guitar and vocal and do the same, carving out a spot for the vocals to poke through without increasing the volume.
