I'd be grateful to know what any listeners play this back through and how well the mix works (or not) . Ideally you will be wearing my headphones, playing back though my DAW, sitting on my sofa

Older, hey? My own conception of a waltz is somewhere between Brahms and Tchaikovsky... I had no issue with the rhythm or the choice of the term "waltz" here. Possibly could use a little more swing and sway to it (achieved by being lighter on the third beat of the bar)... but if you're going for wistful, then maybe you don't want to emphasise the rhythm so much.Benedict wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 9:57 pmIf you hadn't called it a waltz, I may have been a bit less definite, but still, too Hipster-slurred for my older preferences.
Nice! Very lush and vibey. No issues with the song, but the mix is a bit too full in the lower and upper mids. You could EQ chunks of the spectra out to make room, but what I do is use Waves' F6 EQ to dynamically carve out bits using a side chain. So for instance, the bass and cello are stepping on each other. Look at the cello part in a spectrum analyzer and see the overlap. Focus a band at that point, probably the lowest bit, and have the bass track dynamically remove those frequencies, but only when they exist together. You can also find the parts in the guitar and vocal and do the same, carving out a spot for the vocals to poke through without increasing the volume.lingyai wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 7:37 pm This might be considered bit wimpy for these parts, but hey![]()
