Hi, I have tried to find the answer to this here and elsewhere and just cannot figure it out, sorry.

I am recording guitar in Logic Pro via a Hex pickup. I can get that multi-channel MIDI recording to play fine in one of my Amplesound Guitar plug-ins (4.01).

I want to make a preset of it in Amplesound Riffer so that I can then further edit it in the Riffer Editor, but I then want to export *that* from the Riffer Editor as a multi-channel MIDI file. However, that does not seem possible.

I have tried different combinations of MIDI Out/MIDI Guitar options in Settings but just cannot figure out how to export it *from Riffer* as either a multichannel MIDI file, or as separated files for each MIDI channel (i.e 6 separate files). Either would do for my use case.

As a potential workaround I have even tried using the "Drag MIDI to host" option in both Logic (and Reaper as a test, I case Logic has an issue with that), thinking that I might then be able to export a multi-channel MIDI file from the DAW. However, what is dragged from Riffer always seems to be single channel MIDI in the DAW.

I hope there is any easy solution to the above!

At the moment, Riffer does not import channel info (as far as I know), nor does it export channel info to the DAW; the basses do behave properly and I think the guitars will be brought into line in the next update.

Hi, and thanks for that info. I must admit to being confused therefore as to what the Setting "MIDI Out > Export Mode" is for. From what I could find online it seemed that multi-channel MIDI export was possible, but I guess I will just have to wait for the update to 4.1.

By the way, do you happen to know (for editing) if in Riffer there is an easy way to select all notes that are on just one string?

Strangely, midi channel export worked fine in version 3.x, which is what I still use until this issue is sorted out. service@amplesound.net might give you a link to an v3 installer if you want to downgrade.
Selection all notes on a string - not sure - I usually throw a rope round them which is very fiddly. Try one of the many v4 guitar videos. I'm sure it will be covered if it's not in the manual.

Good to know about v3.x, thanks, so I think I will mail them about this. I could not find a way to select the notes on just one string, so I might as well ask them that at the same time.

You can force the notes to be played on the string you want, it is in the guitar manuals. Enter the MIDI Keyswitches below the notes you want to force.

2.13.1 String Force
Specify a string to be played. G0-C1 correspond to 6th string-1st string. High velocity String Force will affect fret position，while low velocity will not.

Hello,

If you want to select all notes on one string, please switch the Riffer to Tab mode first.

Then you can simply click the small circle for that string to select all notes on it.

Thanks very much for the advice/pointer and screenshot. I have been able to figure out how to do that, and that was exactly the kind of selection that I wanted to make. Ideally I would like a way to be able export just that string to MIDI, but maybe I can figure out a work around for that before the multi-channel issue is resolved. Thanks again!

If your DAW can handle Articulation Sets, you might want to look into that.
I use one to embed the string info into each midi note in Logic which saves having to use separate keyswitches, enabling me to move notes around in my piano roll without losing the string info.

Many thanks for your suggestion but it is way beyond me and what I am looking to do

. I only work with guitar (not keyboard) and just want to edit what I record (i.e. "tidy up" poor playing, errant notes be that from Hex MIDI pickup or via Melodyne etc.) so that I can then re-render it via Amplesound guitar. Anyhow, thanks again!

Thanks for the pointer, I might check that out! Do you know how it compares with Melodyne wrt generating polyphonic MIDI from an acoustic guitar recording? Is it equally as good or maybe even better?

I have used Melodyne, a TriplePlay pickup and various other software solutions.
This is at least twice as good and very simple to use. Guitar is what it's best at but any single instrument comes out great, even bass. (Not paid comments!)

OK, that is really good to know, thanks! If it works better than TriplePlay (I have been experimenting with that) and/or Melodyne, and is easy to use, then I think it is enough for me to warrant giving it a try. At the end of the day, I just want the simplest and most forgiving solution to get the best results I can from what I have written/played!
