Focusrite stuff is great, I dont own one of their audio interfaces, but I've used a few.

A modern Focusrite interface isn't holding anyone back.

Grow up.
I have Focusrite gear myself and have used much of their stuff over the last three decades.
Ok - from your era of Focusrite usage - the Mbox did NOT sound good (the little blue and gray guy). But people did track with the Focusrite Liquid Channels in big studios way back when, believe it or not.

BTW, I had the vertical racked ISA 110's for a while, but sold for a profit.

Also had the vertical racked Avalons. Not sure many people have seen those. Way better than the 737 / 747 era.

For me, I've probably spent more money on buying and upgrading my DAWs, and buying plugins (Native Instrument ones come to mind) than I spent on hardware over the years although my more recent purchase of the Fantom 06 and proper monitoring speakers rather than headphones has probably leveled that up now. For me it is rather liberating not to need to use a DAW to hear the sounds I've created and have been able to compose with. The recording possibilities are more limited than with a DAW and a computer but some modern hardware synths are even more integrated in a computer setup environment. Being tied to software exclusively without hardware was an interesting experience in my early days of composing using a tracker on an Amiga and a qwerty keyboard, 30 years ago. Today we can still compose in that way should we want to and the same with a Playstation console Music 2000 and a handheld controller that would necessitate that. Having a physical controller keyboard that can be the full containment of your music production rather than being tied to a laptop that requires many more devices, audio, USB interfaces and keyboards can be more of a faff to move around. With a single synth, you can get away with just a pair of headphones and a synthesizer itself. It may be big and heavy to transport but plastic built ones do help with that.

I'm super tiered atm, was going to talk more about VST aspects. Maybe later...
