In this video I try to explain the differences between some of the different distortion plugins. I didn't do the guitar focused ones, but I covered the main ones here. I tried to explain them as well as talk about when I would use which. I hope you find it useful.

Does the Saturator give us anything that we can't achieve with the Waveshaper?
I see it's got harmonics and compander sections.
Do they give us anything different, or are they just simplifications of what we can do in Waveshaper?
Sorry for my ignorance, I always go straight for the waveshaper, which may not be the smartest move.

The harmonics allow you to directly control the harmonics which can be useful for things like bass. The compander allows you to feed the distortion with a more consistent signal, which can greatly change the sound. I don't know if the harmonics are possible to do with waveshaping, but I think you could if you knew enough. Companding isn't possible though._al_ wrote: Sun Jun 07, 2026 2:20 am Does the Saturator give us anything that we can't achieve with the Waveshaper?
