I wish they would make z3ta open source. I HATED the reverb on it. After hearing what was done with Surge, this would be a powerhouse.

I haven't heard from Rene in 15 years. Are you saying that you have been able to keep in touch?

I never knew that!!! I've always wondered what happened to him!! Is he on a particular forum, or did you just find him under his name?TotcProductions wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2026 9:37 pmHe's on Facebook. Hmmm.... Bummer.... Chances are that's what I would get if I wrote. But I have to admit that I've wondered many times over the years how he's doing.whassup wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2026 10:02 pmUnfortunately not. Then some life happened and here we are.
No hard feelings at all. Just sad.

rene probably doesn't even own the code anymore. cakewalk bought rgc audio years ago, so the IP is owned by bandlab now. even if he wanted to open source it, it's stuck in corporate limbo. a surge-style open source reboot of z3ta would be the dream though.

We've been in communication going back well over 20 years. Collaborated closely with him before and during his time at Cakewalk when I ran Pro-Sounds. Both of us exited the industry, but stayed in touch over the years to talk shop and life in general.audiojunkie wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2026 10:13 pmI never knew that!!! With Cakewalk having control of everything when he moved on, I'm not sure what kind of say he would even have over the code for Zeta+, Rapture, Dimension Pro, etc. If I remember correctly, Roland came in at some point and shelved everything. Can't speak to details, as I was under an NDA, but I was working on a pretty cool Rene project that I believe was cut due to Roland coming in an shaking things up (I had just finished all the work, too!). All the people I was working closely with at Cakewalk were canned or left after that and my work for them ended.
