I'm not sure I'd say it was anything to do with the tuning... I'm actually not even sure what I'd say it was... maybe diffuse isn't right. Maybe I could get it closer with tweaking the tweaks page. Hard to say, but what I will say is, as crazy as it may sound, I think Repro is as good as my Prophet 6 in most ways, but different. If I'm looking for something that's going to cut through a mix full of crunchy guitars and whatnot, I'm going to probably go for Repro. My only real criticism of it is, I wish the per voice distortion had a higher quality mode.Uncle E wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 7:24 pmFor the sake of comparison, the Prophet-6 sounds more focused than the Prophet-5 REV 4, IMO. Then again, you just got a Vintage Knob.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 3:40 pm It sounds a bit more focused than my 6, but obviously it's not an emulation of a 6.![]()

If anyone else in this thread happens to own a hardware Rev 4 and U-he's RePro, I built a sysex to RePro converter in Python. It's not just mapping knob values, but I sat down and tediously measured a bunch of parameters to against my hardware to try to dial in the mappings. Obviously, RePro isn't a Rev 4 but this converter still works really well IMO.

I'm with Zerocrossing on this one. People keep releasing new Prophet-5 emulations and I keep comparing them (extensively!) to Repro-5 and they never measure up. I even own a few, like the Model 80, and I used to think "people like this one it will eventually click that it's good..." but it never happens. Repro-5 also has the best voice-panning control of all of them and the best onboard effects (fwiw, I often bypass them) of which the polyphonic distortion / sat is often very useful. And then there is the 'tweaks' panel, which people seem to forget exists....
And it still sounds amazing. I think the people calling it "sterile" are either just parroting talking points in forums or haven't actually spent more than 5 minutes moving the knobs and understanding how to program it (it's not hard, it's very responsive, and it can *absolutely* be made to sound non-sterile).
Anyway, yeah. Pass on this GF thing after an hour or so in demo. Always thought their XMOD was overrated anyway, I own a bunch of their synths, and I quite like all the earlier ones, and never once used XMOD on 'any of em. But that's just me.

XMOD is a fast, intuitive way to add modular-like capabilities. If anything, it’s underrated and under-utilized, IMO.

I seldom use it. Something about the interface for it just doesn't make me want to use it. But on the rare occasions I need/want that extra LFO or Env on a parameter, I'm appreciative it's there. But it doesn't inspire to me go all out modular synth on these plugins with tons of modulations for whatever reason.Uncle E wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 4:39 pm XMOD is a fast, intuitive way to add modular-like capabilities. @Funkybot ,thanks alot for sharing the converter script. Would this potentially be able to work with the Sequential / Gforce Prophet 5 rev 4 ?

I don't disagree. I said a few times: overall, I think RePro-5 is still the best Prophet synth plugin. I've changed my opinion on how sterile it is after doing a lot of recent measurements, but it's not a totally invalid opinion. What I want is the ability to exagerate the envelope, filter, and OSC tuning slop independently. Having them all tied under one Detune control is not ideal. It checks off the "not too complex" box, which is good, but sometimes I think I want the filter and envelope slop of that knob at 55, but with the oscillator tuning of that knob at 35. You can burn mod slots to get close, but with only 4, it's a bit limited.mholloway wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 4:30 pm I'm with Zerocrossing on this one. Where I think the Sequential Prophet-5 wins is directly feeling like an emulation of the Rev-4. It sounds pretty damn close to the hardware. Like, really, really close. Even the resonance behavior. It's also got the Poly Unison, Q-Comp, stacks and splits, etc.
I don't mind owning both plugins and the hardware.

Sorry, I misread this. No. It cannot. Is GForce's preset format readable? U-he's are plain text with some binary data. If yes, someone could probably do the same.trusampler wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 5:15 pm @Funkybot ,thanks alot for sharing the converter script. If I had heard Zerocrossing's report on the polymod, I would not have bought the GForce plugin. I may not sell it until GForce adds a Sysex feature. But I'm happy to give up my license for cheap. I was wrong about Repro being kind of sterile. The magic is there when you increase the voice detuning knob. But the sound of the GForce version is a bit more immediate.mholloway wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 4:30 pm I'm with Zerocrossing on this one. Sonically, I still prefer the Gforce over Repro (no matter how much tweaking). The weakest part of the Gforce are the FX - the one's in Repro are simple and meld so well with the sound itself. Therefore, the best to me is Gforce, but not by very much margin at all, and I probably didn't need to buy it since I have Repro.
Also, Gforce needs an inexpensive crossgrade to a Pro1 or Pro3, because that's the "secret weapon" of Repro.
