You can also just press the buttons at the top which say "1 c", 2 c#" to preview the sounds.james_laverc wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2026 11:16 amI've been using Microtonic lately, and I'm really enjoying the sound quality. However, there's one thing that's slowing down my workflow: as far as I can tell, there's no obvious way to simply click on a drum channel (kick, snare, hi-hat, etc.) and audition that individual sound instantly while trying to create a beat... or am I missing something?ThoughtExperiment wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 10:38 am Sonic Charge Microtonic is pretty old now, but it's still unbeatable for synthetic drums. There's even a bank of simulated classic drum machines included. Certainly worth checking out IMO.
I use FL Studio, and the only way I`ve found out to hear the sounds so far is by pressing its Play buttom (which plays drumbeats in loop) or through the Piano roll.
Ah, now I see my mistake. I once tried to press those top buttoms, but now I realize you have to press each twice to make them produce a sound.
Thanx, you saved the day.

Two things: FM drums are easy to make with free VSTs; use samples in FPC and put a bit reducer on the channel- change settings as desiredjames_laverc wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 6:06 am Hi. I use FL Studio, and I'm looking for a drum kit with a very synthetic sound — as "artificial" as drums could sound in the 1980s. If there is something like that among FL Studio's native plugins, that would be great, but I'm also open to third-party plugins.
I know the classic drum machines like the 808, and all that stuff, but I`m looking for something beyond that, so to speak.
Any suggestions? Thanx in advance.
I also have FM drums with the digital OSC in my Prologue, but that is not what you asked

It would be a very pleasant surprise if Sonic Charge announces Microtonic 2 , but so far that's just a wish. Although it is still quite a capable plugin, but it is surely getting old. Looks, and features wise.

It was called synthetic drumsosiris wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 7:52 pm There was a great one in Battery 4 (I think was the version). It is no more.

If its appearance really bothers you, there's a dark skin which is less old-fashioned looking. It is, admittedly, quite old, but as far as features are concerned, I can't think of anything I feel like I'm missing. I still use it whenever I need a synthetic kit.Muziksculp wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2026 4:27 amIt would be a very pleasant surprise if Sonic Charge announces Microtonic 2 , but so far that's just a wish. Early Kraftwerk, Human League etc commonly used one synth for a whole kit. It is a balancing act but you get some really lovely results. Grab a synth like Synth1 (or anything really - but two OSC or Osc + Noise helps) and make Env really short then go from there. I still use this technique today.
I also use samplers like NN-XT (or Shortcircuit will do if it stopped crashing) for their key mapping. Like the typical Sine drop approach, use the Filter Reso + Env to create the tone movement. I just made a whole kit with nothing but a noise sample and filters. No one else has that exact kit.

hey guys i can make microtonic obsolete right now, a few feature requests would be nice so im not working blind.
if your request has to do with basic sound quality quality: don't ask
sound quality is aliasing free and analog based, it will sound good. just tell me what you want.
i am a vet when it comes to microtonic, i know what sounds good and i know why microtonic sounds better than other crap.
I'm going to start by making kick, snare, hat modules. I have to do this slowly. First the basics. Eventually if you want one big module (like the entire microtonic interface) i can do that, but I need to perfect everything one at a time. First we need a perfect curve for easily dialing in kicks. Oh, one thing that will help is using a resonator instead of a stupid sine wave (i think, i need to implement it, but im pretty sure it will be way better, and it will have beautiful rounded overdrive since it's analog modeled)

I think the thing I like so much about MT is that there are no separate modules for individual types. One engine creates all sounds. That's a bit like using a normal synthesizer for making drum sounds.Architeuthis wrote: Fri Jul 03, 2026 2:41 am I'm going to start by making kick, snare, hat modules. I have to do this slowly. can do one even better: you can load up any percussion module for any slot including the "do it all" module.DrGonzo wrote: Fri Jul 03, 2026 3:24 amI think the thing I like so much about MT is that there are no separate modules for individual types. there's no this OR that, it's always: both and all. im doing best of all words software. there's no limits and no compromises.

how about this feature:DrGonzo wrote: Fri Jul 03, 2026 4:12 amLooking forward to hear the results.Architeuthis wrote: Fri Jul 03, 2026 4:06 am there's no this OR that, it's always: both and all. im doing best of all words software. there's no limits and no compromises.
"hey ai i need a drum module with this or that feature"
"sure, let me add one to the environment for you" boom. it's done. using all of my beautiful analog emulation math. ai agent only pulls from my road-tested algorithms. You can make f**king anything you want. and eventually ill have audio plugin export.
yes you can design your own interface
yes you can ask ai to make the interface
yes it will have good reverb
yes it will have all the fx you want, phasor, flanger, all analog modeled, all very fast and efficient.
yes my analog filters beats everything currently available
yes you can ask for custom analog filters
yes it will be free (mostly... for now)
yes it will feature LITERAL CODE MODULES!!! fast angelscript JUST-IN-TIME (jit) compiling
yes the codebase will be SIMD underneath (4x or 8x calculations for 1 cpu cycle)
yes im working on realtime fast additive synthesis that also beats everything available.
this is what you get when you master digital signals. im dumbfounded why this wasn't made yet. it's so f**king obvious that someone needs to make this... well im making it and it's almost ready for real world use.
yes it works realtime multiplatform i dont know what else the f**k you guys want. you can have everything you want. literally.
