If you’re not doing video production, it’s unlikely that you would.

I have been using Borisfx for over 20 years. Stuff I bought back then still works on an older i7 2012 Mac mini.

I’m onboard if they return Ozone to standalone app format. Dropping the standalone format is one of the most annoying things that iZotope did.

The news article suggests they already sold off their other acquisitions as well? I must have missed that.

iZotope RX is the only thing I use from them, but it's really great at what it does. I don't care too much about the suite of plugins. As long as they keep RX chugging along, I'll be happy.

(I had been hoping Acon Digital Acoustica would catch up to RX eventually for spectral editing, but its development seems to have stalled out in favor of a bunch of stem separation and isolation plugins. I wish they had gotten far enough to give it spectral soft selection. Alas.)

i thought that... at first. now i revel in the idea that i have a project set to the tempo of my mix (in case i want to do an edit, or automate the level), that i can keep my mastering settings but, for example, swap out a mix where i've turned up the bass a hair, or fixed a vocal note. am ultimately finding it easy to navigate, and enjoying having more options.

I elected not to update any of my NI/iZotope products due to the poor implementation of NA, and a host of other reasons.

There are just better product out there

Sorry if this was already posted, but some more info on BorisFx for those not familiar and an interesting take on the future:

Boris came into Samplitude 2025 with some higher than expected upgrade pricing. But they quickly brought bugfixes and substantial performance improvements. I had a need for tech support during that first week, and they were on top of it. Seemed like things were off to a good start. Since then, seems like things have slowed down a bit.

They did listen to the user base poll and re-integrated CD burning within the app fairly quickly as well. Don't know where it's going, but Samplitude 2026 is an excellent DAW that needs some basic gui/appearance updates and some deeper forward thinking strategy. Hopefully Boris will get it right by the 2027 release or else I think a lot of the user base will begin to grumble.

Thanks for the optimistic take. We could certainly use more of that round these parts. :D

iZotope is widely used in post-production — and that industry can afford the top-of-the-line suite license for software like RX in a way the bedroom producer can’t.

^ THAT is the phrase in that article that makes me nervous.

Yes, but the latest Izotope mastering/mixing upgrade I paid for was reasonable low, to my delight. The problem is to jump into the Izotope ecosystem and pay the initial price -- let's see what upgrade pricing will be, indeed. (if unreasonable I will just change my mix/mastering plugin chain then with alternatives).

Post

Ditto with the upgrade - I got both Ozone and RX upgrades on sale and it was pretty reasonable compared to the new non-sale prices at the time.

Not just the article, but there is good reason for concern here. Acid is will be $150 for a perpetual license and it looks like they're prioritizing subscriptions of over perpetual (based on it defaulting to subscription after choosing the buy option). It looks like you still can't purchase it (coming soon listed under the price).

Even before Acid bounced around, it was a super cheap DAW you could pick up in physical stores. Since then, it's been part of the humble bundle very frequently and listed at bargain pricing for a decade or more?

This will be interesting to say the least.

Hadn't hear about BorisFX either, but I hope this will be a better home for my beloved iZotope tools. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time with RX doing voice over post-production in the past. One of my favorite pieces of software of all time, and it still feels like magic. :)
