(I'm old school that way, I've been using MIDI since 1985, I don't know why an one would want anything else, and to me it's all natural... but if it turns out it's dead, then sure, I'll cope with that and work around it)
"MIDI is not necessary for plug-ins"? How else are they playing notes at all, I wonder. :ud:

I am guessing what they meant to say is "I don't need plugins to have their own internal MIDI learn". Either because they aren't using CCs to control parameters, or because the DAW offers a generic one that works well.

I like others here use both in different situations. MIDI CCs in real-time performance situations, and host automation when working on the DAW timeline. Both have up- and downsides.

I answered "One-time purchase with mostly free updates" but I am also fine paying for updates as well :P

For example, I'd pay $100 for a Hive 2 -> Hive 3 upgrade, even if it wasn't a radical rewrite.

Also, even though I don't have an MPE controller, MPE (or Note Expression) is still a really important feature to me. When I use Ableton Live or Bitwig, I will often sequence it from the piano roll, especially MPE pitch controls to add ornaments, adjust intonation, or even wild FX.

What would you expect for that $100 update?
