.. and even within the free market, there are much better sounding and operating plugins out there. For instance the Chowdhury tape. Or the old legacy v3 version of Toneboosters Reelbus which I believe is freeware now. Or FerricTDS from Variety of Sound. etc. etc.
How about airwindows, open source and free i believe. updated to version 9 recently.
would love to hear your thoughts about it, if you could

Yes, sorry for forgetting about the Airwindows plugins!

They are absolutely BRILLIANT! Pretty much all of Chris's plugins I've tried are of extremely high quality, though somewhat quirky and temperamental at times.

I have neglected them but that's not because they aren't excellent. They absolutely are! It's just that I've gotten to the point where I'm almost 100% satisfied with what I have available plugin wise in my arsenal so I've cut back heavily on keeping things installed. I do check out new releases all the time, as evident by this very thread, but I am absolutely brutal when it comes to deleting things.. even if it's free.

As for Airwindows, I don't consider them "freeware". Airwindows operates through Patreon and as I haven't been a paying Patron for Chris for a while now (sorry Chris! But I did support you for almost 2 years!) I can't morally justify them at the moment. I do however have Purest Gain and Bitshift Gain as my mainstays for gain staging things within Reaper. I consider them truly paid for at this point. :)

... yes it always ends up that way. Not on purpose! I do try to be more sensitive but sometimes I just jump right into my default state which is definitely blunt. That is a character flaw of mine and I'm well aware of it. The only upside is that people don't have to be guessing.. and the moment I get bought and paid for, you'll all see right through it. :hihi:

BTW Airwindows ToTape9 is nice and free, and that guy is definitely not doing vibe coding based on the live YouTube streams where he does coding.

PS: I don't mind vibe coding but there's something about long-term continuity when using software plugins so I prefer u-he Satin And ToTape. Or, I don't trust that with vibe-coders.

Thank you - glad you agree :tu: My prior explanation of why I liked the plugin wasn't already enough for you? That's a shame.

'Don't you know who I am?'
'Don't you know who he is?'

I was positive about the plugin and he came along and tried to invalidate me and the others who were positive about it then got very defensive when called out on it. It doesn't matter how much experience he has, how many Fab Filter presets he has, how many posts he has or how many people he's helped with said posts. He was dismissive and patronising. That deserves to be called out.

After spending more time with the plugin, I still like it. Will I use it in projects? From time to time I might. I stand by all the positive things I said about it earlier in the thread, regardless of those things being omitted when I've been quoted or my opinion not holding as much weight as someone else's.

At TheSweetSpot, you’re doing exactly what you’re accusing him of.

You called him out for only giving 15 minutes. That’s dismissive and patronizing in that you think you know his capability more than he did, and didn’t believe his answer was justified based on the time spent.

Now that you hear he’s got some actual experience, you’re lashing out everyone that’s mentioning it.

Nobody is stopping you from having an opinion and all this started because you didn’t think he did enough to justify his own opinion and that’s f**ked up.

Actually you were being dismissive and that deserves to be called out.
He just stated his opinion as you did and you dismissed his knowledge and experience which is proven but yours is not, respectfully again.
as I said before, fantastic logic.

Not lashing out. Just sharing my thoughts and observations. Why would learning he has experience bother me? Not at all. I thought him listing it all was unnecessary and defensive. Stating my opinion that 15 minutes isn't enough time to thoroughly test something isn't about the person doing the testing - it's about the tool being tested. But quite honestly, I'd expect better of someone with so much experience (in audio and here on the forum) than 'I hated it, deleted it after 15 minutes and I don't know what's wrong with anyone who likes it'. But that's on me for having such expectations on anyone.
