So patterns are actually per track pitch patterns?

Is there a way of selecting a slice from the sequencer?

Post

No, would you like that ?

I think it would be cool to have some kind of slice offset so you can start a loop from a different slice.

Also in Seq mode it would be cool if you could quantize the triggers to the grid.

For example if you drag the midi file to a track there are certain beats that are naturally off the grid (which is fine) but it would be cool to be able to force that within the sequencer.

To be honest it's not a big deal because I can do that from within the DAW sequencer.

The previously mentioned sample trimming, manual slice entry and mousewheel/trackpad zoom for the slicer would be cool.

I've also come across an issue a number of times where I can't select things from a menu like synth type.

I'll get to work ;) a bit slower cause I'm on a holiday in Spain. Thanks for the feedback. I still recommend to use recycle at this point :)

Hey Paul, can we get a light UI version when you have some time to spare for that (no hurry).
Great stuff as always!

4.2.2 is up — the slicer got a loop selector.

loop brackets. you can now drag out a region in the slicer, reaper-style, and only those slices play — works on both rex files and wavs you slice inside beatforge. it's non-destructive, so you can move the selection around any time. the excluded slices actually disappear from the sequencer view (not just greyed out), the midi renumbers so your selection starts on C1, and dragging the midi out to your daw exports only the selected part. drag anywhere in the strip under the waveform to make a selection, grab an edge to nudge it, click once to clear back to the full loop. snaps to slice boundaries, hold shift for free positioning.

slicer bits. ctrl+click adds or deletes slice markers, mousewheel/trackpad zooms in around the cursor, and slice edits are undoable now.

fixes. two annoying ones i finally tracked down: menus that wouldn't stick sometimes (picking a synth or a sample and it'd snap back), and knobs jumping back to their old value while a pattern played. both fixed. also sliced tracks and loop selections now restore properly when you reopen a project.

beatforge.nl — feedback welcome as always.

next up i'll work on other themes.

Latest update is pretty substantive, I can now use wav drum loops as midi ascending on the scale similar to Stylus w/ Rex. I haven't exact scienced it yet, but even tinkering around there's an easy way to juggle midi from a wav drum sample, that alone opens up vistas to what is possible. It's very 'happy accident' conducive.

Idk what other drum plugin that does this, Studio One vers. 8 introduced wav to midi i think, but I prefer using vers. 6 of S1 rn. Very nice update, I look forward to some new themes, you're crushing it atm.

BeatForge 4.2.3 — Themes

BeatForge just got a wardrobe. Click the logo and pick from 5 looks:

- Classic — the charcoal + cyan you know
- The Grid — neon blue-black, for late-night grid runners
- Nine-O-Nine — a full light theme styled after a certain legendary Roland: cream keys, red step LEDs, dark grey knobs with orange pointers
- Night Drive — hot pink over midnight blue
- Deep Red — crimson on black, giallo style

Your pick is remembered across sessions and switches instantly, no reload.

Also in 4.2.3:
- The waveform strip now lines up exactly with the 16 steps
- Click the track number to select a track; solo/mute now light up properly
- Fixes: undo restores slicer loop brackets, random slice mode respects the brackets, and the plugin no longer marks your project as changed just by opening it

Free update for everyone — grab it at beatforge.nl

Fantastic work, Paul.

Excited to jump in.

The gui is the weakest point of the plugin imo, though it's still easy to work with and not bad by any means, just in comparison to its other strengths. Everything's laid out straightforwardly so that's the important thing.

For me that 909 skin is hard on the eyeballs. I like the blue theme best.

Post

I was going for that, a real 909 isn't pretty either. My favourite is the blue one too, but I agree it's still a work in progress ;)
