$80 is/was a great price for T1.6

However, I thought the whole rationale behind Tracktion was was **cheap** and acessible software for musicically challenged people like me.

I am quite shocked at this price hike, this is the true price of Mackie's world wide distiibution and not greed from Jules.

Are there other examples where the cost of a DAW has gone up so much in a transition between v1 and v2 ?

Okay, give me a kicking.

actually when I bought t1 it said MSRP (or whatnot) of $149.

Try paying $298 for Orion Platinum !
I agree in that it is a steep price hike and probably a surprise to a lot of users. But it's pretty much in line with what other companies charge and if T2 is as good as the press suggests then it will actually work out cheaper than other multi trackers and sequencers...

Nope. The rationale was simply that Jules created software that he himself would want to use, and developed a product from it. Once Mackie became involved, the other sales pitch was, "The most intuitive recording software ever."

Dunno if it was ever marketed beyond word-of-mouth for its low price. Not to my recollection, though I've not seen every piece of Tracktion literature ever.

Until it costs as much as the likes of Cubase, Sonar, Live, etc, I don't feel there's anything to complain about. For me, it is simply the ideal sequencer, and as long as it is cheaper than the inferior (to me) alternatives, I have no problem paying the asking price.

Yeah, wot he said.

Same here, I've got the raging horn for T2 and can't wait.

Hello folks,

If a program increases its cost by 250%, that a big hike. This is the Mackie premium.

I shall still definately purchase it though !

Since when is $199 equal to 250% of $149??

[sigh]

ow much ee it?

I paid $80, like everbody else.

What you paid is irrelevant to the facts.

The MRP for T1 is $149. The MRP for T2 is $199.
Those are only recommended prices, so retailers will be discounting them after about a month, no doubt.

So wait till Musican's Friend or Guitar Centre are flogging it for $99. Until then, the MRP has gone up a mere 25%. End of story.
