T2 is too expensive

How many people actually paid $150 for T1? It was only $80 online. And it wasn't boxed, right?

sigh...
Did all of you actually READ the announcement?
And IMHO the online price for download-only hasn't been announced, yet (TBD).
EDIT for clarification: Yes, I know that line " T2 is the first version of the software that will be sold "out of the box" in retail stores", but I doubt this will be the only way for upgraders. Honestly, I did the hassle of buying boxed software from the US twice (customs duties - aargh) and I'll never do it again! A simple download file without any bundled plugs for existing Tracktion users seems reasonable.
Just my $0.02[/i]

So it is $199 for the boxed version - as it was $149 before for T1.The retail price for T2 and the 70+ free plug-ins bundled in the box will be US$199.

So, at current exchange rate T2 will be just over £100 boxed, possibly cheaper if download/discount/etc. For comparison purposes Logic Express is £200, Ableton Live can be had for £250, and Digital Performer for around £400. Assuming most of the T1 bugs are ironed out in T2, it sounds like an absolute bargain to me. The lack of some of the more advanced features the other packages boast (e.g. Live's loop/warp capability) is clearly reflected in the price, and as such I think it's very fair. Can't wait to demo it.

I've been watching these threads all morning and refrained from posting but.....
I have to be honest, what attracted me to Tracktion was the NFR release. With nothing to lose I downloaded to give it a try. I have now bought T1 and will upgrade to T2 for one reason and one reason only. It does exactly what I want and in the way I want it to. I've previously bought Logic, Cubase and tried the Sonar3 demo. When I started using Tracktion I would jump back to the old familiar Logic but then found myself spending more and more time with Tracktion. I now have a cross platform app that I can use on my PC DAW and Powerbook. What are the alternatives for that except for SX and ProTools. $199 wouldn't buy a decent manual for these progams and you do need a manual for them.
Come on guys, I know that $200 is not nothing but it's only $4 a week for a years use. Plus until Jules puts a registered charity number on his website he deserves to earn a living from something he's put a lot of work into. I'm sure we all go into a new job were we have to work twice as hard and say to the new boss "I was only getting paid £10 per hour before so just give me £10.50". Yeah right!

Grant it, some of the synths are free but Slayer 2.0 is $69 alone from reFX. Somebody has got to pay for these xtra goodies even if Mackie got a deal. Remember, Nothing, outside of eternal life and the gifts of God, is free. Oh, and the price is retail! I am sure the bigger music stores will give their usual loyal customer dicounts. Quitcher Cryin'

I'd happily forgo the plugins for a lesser upgrade cost. I certainly hope that is an option.
Concerning cross-platform apps, Live4 is also in that category.

What, in the "costs 2.5 times as much for a licence to use on one machine" category?braj wrote:Concerning cross-platform apps, Live4 is also in that category.

Here goes... how many people complaining about the price have bought T1 and any other software/plugins they may be using. Is your copy of Win2K, XP etc legal?
It's the old story of if you do something for nothing the first time then it's expected all of the time.

I was referring to this:
And at least you won't need a manual, it's about the same as Tracktion in usability IMO. For me personally, I've found it actually more intuitive. Don't take this as an attack on T2, I'm planning on upgrading.
And you can find Live4 for twice as much, not 2.5 times. It's normal street price is $399.leeturne wrote:What are the alternatives for that except for SX and ProTools. $199 wouldn't buy a decent manual for these progams and you do need a manual for them.

Live's MSRP is $499. Tracktion's MSRP is $199. That makes Live officially 2.5 times as expensive as Tracktion 2. Tractkion's street price has yet to be seen, 'cos you can't yet buy it.

I think a lot of people haven't got the hang of how this pricing thing works, and are jumping to the wrong conclusions.
Also, with Live you have a licence to run it on ONE MACHINE. Tracktion's cross platform licence lets you run it on two simultaneously.

That still wasn't really my point, there is an alternative to Cubase and ProTools for cross-platform DAWs. Not that it really matters much.chico.co.uk wrote:Live's MSRP is $499. You'll probably need to invest in a new computer though. Tests that several of us have done consistently show that Live 4 uses more than 50% more CPU per VST plug in than Tracktion does... and it has no freeze feature.braj wrote: And you can find Live4 for twice as much, not 2.5 times. Also for the record, Live has no PDC, and only handles audio at 24-bit, compared to 64-bit in T2. And to my ears (and several others who have posted) the sound quality in Live 4 is inferior and has a "metalic" colouration.

I don't care what the MSR price is. I care what the street price is. The $149 price was never of any importance. I bought Tracktion at $80 before any whisper of that fictional price anyway. So if the new version really does cost $199, then that it is quite a price increase. I'll be a little disapointed not so much for my own purse's sake, but for the loss to the music making community. Traktion was a cheap and wonderful program I could recommend even to my poorest students. I'll buy it anyway, but I doubt I'll upgrade all 4 of my licenses and sad to say I doubt my 2 other friends I got hooked on Tracktion will upgrade. (of course we still don't know the upgrade cost) Just my 2 cents.

2 different tools for 2 different jobs.
I can't believe after all this time that people still try to compare Live to traditional linear sequencers. The linear workings of Live 4 is probably one of its weakest areas.
If you want a "traditional" sequencer for gods sake don't buy Live. Its an amazing piece of software but i don't think it was ever meant to be in direct competition with the traditional sequencers.
God i'm bored, i should be doing revision not posting here
