T2 is too expensive

If you can wait a few months I am sure you will find T2 at $125 or less street price.
Upgrade will probably be arround $100.
Either way you can't say it's an expensive tool considering it will be at the hart of your music making.
And if everything goes well T3 will cost even more.
Hey after all they are in it for the money and they will charge as much as the market will allow them.
Right now the market says $199 retail is OK.

If T1 was cheap and wonderful why is this now lost? Won't T1 free version still be available to download?
It isn't currently... later, who knows. I would hope so. :)

Hard to pass by this thread without a few comments :

1] Tracktion started life as an inventive program by a little known genius programmer. Why Jules chose the original price at that time is another matter, but it no doubt reflected the need to establish Tracktion in the marketplace at that time.

2] Since then Tracktion has grown into a major success, and seems to have given major players like Steinberg something to think about when updating their own software.

3] Full PDC (absent in Logic 7) and Freeze (before either Cubase or Sonar had it) were added; the sampler grew in features; Rack Filters provided a fully modular environment for those who wanted it; even a $399 mastering plug-in was added. And all the while the $80 price tag remained unchanged.

4] Many potential Tracktion users looked at the price tag and passed by, assuming Tracktion was not a worthwhile pro-audio and MIDI tool

5] Mackie saw how great Tracktion was and snapped up marketing and distribution rights. They invested heavily in the program, and gave Jules a secure basis for working on T2.

6] T2 has once again pipped the major players to the post in various areas, (e.g. 64/192 audio).

7] The time is now right for Tracktion to recieve wide recognition as a full-on professional program. It has ease of use that makes it instantly accessible to beginners, combined with cutting edge features that will have experienced pro users sitting up in their seats. I can tell you anecdotally that a relative of mine who worked with George Martin at AIR studios in London until recently was stunned when I showed him Tracktion...

8] Even without the plug-ins, Tracktion 2 an incredible bargain when you compare its feature set with other software of the moment. I can tell you from experience that even Tracktion 1 significantly outperforms the much-hyped Live 4 in almost every area of music production, and T2 will simply sweep the board in terms of features/cost ratio.

9] The bundled plug-ins have been negotiated over recent weeks (some probably still under discussion) and have had little or no breaing at all on the price of T2. They are simply a means of mutual promotion. For example the Sampletank LE plug has been bundled with several other products in recent months.

For some people of course, cheapness is a considerable virtue in itself. Such people will probably gravitate onwards to Podium, eXT, etc. And good luck to them.

But personally I'm delighted to see Tracktion move up to take its rightful place alongside the bigger players. And I think that its success is truly deserved and assured.

Great post. I think the future is bright for T2. With proper marketing and a steadily growing userbase, I'm pretty sure T will give the big boys a run for their money.

Headquest,
Very nicely said!

Like many others, I came to Tracktion because of the NFR release.
The more I go deeper in Tracktion, the more I love it...
But now, I'm afraid it will be the same story as Orion.
I bought Orion 50$ and payed for the upgrades (so it costs me less than 199$ because I'm a registred user) but the official price (for platinum)is now 299$ !

199$ for Tracktion 2 is not so expensive, but I don't want to pay more than the initial price at every updates...

If Tracktion goes pro, his price will go to 400$ or more...

Argh

PQ
But I will dl the T2 demo, just in case...

Can you tell us more about that anecdotally :D

George Martin is a god. I'm loving any story even vaguely associated with him.

I haven't seen anywhere what it's going to cost existing 1.xx users... so lets not beat up Jules, he works his ass off! (he must.... lol) And, everything that comes with T2, i mean, Sonar can't even compete, and Cakewalk makes it pretty easy to get into Sonar w/crossgrades and such, for roughly the same price. Dollar for dollar, it's STILL a hell of a deal, AND we don't know what it's going to cost for an upgrade, yet, but whatever it is, I consider the money better spent here than anything else running. With all the plugs that are coming with it: WOW!!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!! :D

If any product does what you need, does it well, and you enjoy working with it, who gives a rats ass what it costs compared to other things?

I paid major bucks for Sonar 3 Producer and IMHO it can't hold a candle to Tracktion - my productivity and creativity have increased hugely since making the switch. And the upgrade to Sonar 4 Producer costs far more than the full boxed version of T2 does!

So quit whining, and thank your deity of choice that such a great product even exists. Then STFU and go make some music.

He didn't ask you to agree with him. He can say this if he wants. Why is it your job(s) to have a problem with it. Hey, I'm a Christian too, and I agree with him. But your opinion won't harm me. It doesn't bother me that you don't agree with me.

Ya know, it's kind of funny how the free world wants to leave religion out of things, and when a Christian(on this board or elsewhere) speaks a belief, they get condemned by so many people. But when someone says something about worshipping satan, it's ok? That's some pretty screwed up logic.

Get over it. You don't agree, well neither do I with you. You won't change it. And I won't try and change you too. If it was being forced upon you, it would be different, but it's not. So like I said, get over it. Take it to the hyde park forum if it's that big of a problem.

it wasn't spoken as a belief, it was presented as a fact. that will tend to rub people up the wrong way. simple as that.

*edit* oh, and it was casually dropped into a dialogue about the pricing of some music software...
