T2 is too expensive

Some religious groups don't respect people's decision not to believe them. This gives all persons in those groups a bad name, and even if you as an individual don't mean to come off self-righteous, non-believers (or believers of other things really) have to deal with this and get a bit touchy about the whole thing. I'm a person of faith myself, but I think there's a time and place for it. So I leave you with these words from a faith I don't share: Render unto KVR's what is KVR's and unto God what is God's. Oh, and don't throw your pearls before forum posters
I'm so happy to be Hindu.

have you ever seen that movie boondock saints? Near the beginning one of our protaganists is training a rather large angry looking woman at a meat packing plant uses the phrase "rule of thumb"
so she launches into a self righteous diatribe about how it was once legal to beat your wife with sticks the size (or smaller than) the husbands thumb.
Makes me laugh every f**king time.
Doesn't relate directly to the topic of the thread, but that's not stopping anybody else.

I loved T1 NFR at first sight and had a good time working with it. UNTIL I tried using drumpads which mades midi recording crack up in T. Every other note is mute. Something with short duration notes.johnsholme wrote:I haven't seen anywhere what it's going to cost existing 1.xx users... so lets not beat up Jules, he works his ass off! (he must.... lol) And, everything that comes with T2, i mean, Sonar can't even compete, and Cakewalk makes it pretty easy to get into Sonar w/crossgrades and such, for roughly the same price. Dollar for dollar, it's STILL a hell of a deal, AND we don't know what it's going to cost for an upgrade, yet, but whatever it is, I consider the money better spent here than anything else running. With all the plugs that are coming with it: WOW!!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!!
This was reported 7 weeks ago to Mackie which said they forwarded information to developers.
Haven't heard from them since. No confirmation "this is recognized as a bug and will be fixed asap". Nothing.
What I'm trying to say is that no product is better than the vendor supplying it.
T is worth zilch with such a major bug.
What you are buying and paying for is more than just plain compiled code to run on your computer:
a) It's upgrades for many years to come
b) It's support when something is not working and you need a dialog
c) It's documentation
d) It's fast fixes to bugs that are major
People using cracked software is not interested in anything I mentioned here. As long as it's free, nothing else matters, it seems.
But to me this is the deal.
I also tried Sonar 4 and loved that too. But had some trouble with my m-audio soundcard and could not get it working right. Could not get both metronome and audio on the same output. Struggled with m-audio for a year and they just blaim everybody else. Testing a dozen recording software products I could get two to work. nTrack and Tracktion.
Now invested in RME soundcard and suddenly 100% of the software I tested works as expected. So m-audio was not up to the test.
Cakewalk staff always replied to my reports that m-audio card did not work properly with Guitartracks or Sonar.
And as said Sonar has a $200 crossgrade to Sonar 4 Studio and this was my choice. Got it yesterday and is finally at home.
I don't agree that T supersedes Sonar in a single way even(possibly less cluttered screen). My first Cakewalk Pro 3(MSDOS) in the end of the 80's already showed the way how to work in sequencing. Then upgraded to Windows 3 version 1 and 2.
Just recently got over from portastudio to computer and therefore tested quite a list of products.
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/
The full lot is looked at and a dozen tested.
So Cakewalk it is for me. Good and safe vendor, knowing the importance of dialog. And the product is stunning. 260 page manual with good tutorials.
Both M-Audio and Mackie are vendors I don't trust with any of my money. They are out. It's doesn't matter how good the products are.
I still think T is a very nice product well worth $200. And I'm sure T2 upgrade will be acceptable price as well.
Hope T2 delivery is sooner for all of you waiting and longing for it, that I suspect it to be. The strange way of revealing T2 features and deadline made me suspect a looooong wait. I never seen such a strategy from a vendor anywhere.
Best regards

Well, I don't remember your post, but if you click the midi input, you can set it to qunatise incoming notes, and set it to quantise the note lengths to a beat or more. And then, presumably, your problem is solved.
<edit> Actually, no, you can't quantise the note lengths on input. You could do it after the event, but that's probably a pain. My machine at work doesn't have a midi input for me to test before posting ...

Thanks. I only posted on mail and on Mackies forum before.chico.co.uk wrote:Well, I don't remember your post, but if you click the midi input, you can set it to qunatise incoming notes, and set it to quantise the note lengths to a beat or more. And then, presumably, your problem is solved.

I did try the duration adjustment after recording. If I say that 70% were correct from a recording, then about 90% was ok after doing some fixing with quantization and duration and stuff. After also fixing a bit with velocity adjustments maybe 95% were correct.
But you cannot work like that, especially when you don't know whether it ever will be fixed.
T also had some strange stuff with importing certain mid-files from other sequencers so solution seemed very far away.
Enjoy T, it's an excellent product too.

Just to mention this issue is not restricted to Tracktion. I deal with MIDI files all the time at work; none of the major sequencers (Cubase VST & SX, Logic & Cakewalk) seem to agree on exactly how they should be structured.lfm wrote: T also had some strange stuff with importing certain mid-files from other sequencers
Eg: We encountered an issue a while back with a particular version of some conversion software we use: SMF's created with Cubase VST, when processed with this software, would crash Windows Media Player, although they appeared fine in any sequencer. Files from any other sequencers we tried worked ok. The affected files could be fixed by simply opening them with (eg:) Cakewalk, and re-saving without making any changes..
What issues did you have, out of interest?

I think it is not enough, it should be $299. Then it will get the respect it deserves!

huh, $80 = uk £42.70...here in the UK, we never really get a fair exchange rate on anything...vs the US...but no matter... I'm surprised to see all the complaining about price on this forum!
T2 is looking as if it'll feature "everything".
Enjoy.

I really think the price point is a good point to be at. It's not necessarily a beginner's pricing, but it's way far from the so-called "professional" pricing. It will get a bit more respect from those who do use price as an issue, while still staying affordable to most. And for those that want it, but can't afford it, can probably save within a month or so whatever they have to.
I am happy to see that there will be a boxed version finally. While I enjoy downloading for the convenience, this too makes a more "professional" image. It can be seen right along side Cubase and Sonar. I'm sure it won't be a Best Buy app like Magix(not dissing Magix, but it's an image comparison).

I must be missing something here with all this heat about the $199 price tag for T2.
If T2 is all it makes out to be then $199 is quite inexpensive. Especially when the MSRP for T1 is $149. I know that T1 is now $80 but that's the discounted price to get people in. Think of it as a promotional price.
It would be interesting to see the upgrade price though.
