tracktion 1 [mac demo] always plants a Program Change in a new MIDI track.
Fellow forum user, valley, suggests that this can somehow be avoided. I need to understand this better.
Here's what I'm doing:
Make new track. Drag MIDI icon to plug it in, on left side.
Press "racks" button to show racks beneath tracks.
Create a new empty rack
Add a VST instrument [in this case, "Crystal", a free VST synth plugin]
Choose a patch in the VST's screen
Hide the VST
Press record; play some notes; press stop.
Press play; the VST switches to a patch other than the one I chose. If I change it during playback, it stays changed til the next time the playhead gets put back at the start of the track.
Every time I play the track, patch changes to that same, unwanted patch.
If I disable "Automation Read Mode", this won'thappen to me. Sadly, I find no way to assign that command to a key. Looks like I have to do this every time.
I learned by experimentation that I could edit the Program Change marker and change it to a different patch, but I couldn't figure out how to delete it altogether.
Would love to know how to either delete the PC marker, or stop tracktion from putting one there in the first place.

To remove program change from a midi clip:
click on the midi clip to bring it into focus
at the bottom option panel, click on "insert program change"=>"remove all program change message from this clip"
Make sure, like valley said, that you don't have a program set for your midi input. To do that, go to the settings page, click on one of your midi input and make sure program is set to "none"

Wow, that's the stuff! Thanks much, folks. I guess this means I'll have to listen to the audio out of the synth I'm using for MIDI input, or just let it put down the marker and then delete it later. Either way, good to know how to work around this.

I'm quite confused by this post.mooncaine wrote:Wow, that's the stuff! Thanks much, folks. I guess this means I'll have to listen to the audio out of the synth I'm using for MIDI input, or just let it put down the marker and then delete it later. Either way, good to know how to work around this.
First, why are you wrapping a 2 output synth in a rack?
Then how is my post a workaround? I told you how NOT to get program change recorded and how to get rid of the one you already have recorded.
Then, why would you use the audio output of your Hardware synth if you're playing Crystal in the first place?

Like I said, I was new to tracktion. I didn't know any other way to hook up a VST and hear it when I play. I figured it out since.Ezy Ryder wrote:First, why are you wrapping a 2 output synth in a rack?
Maybe I misunderstand you. I'll look it over again. If I have questions, I'll ask. I think I understand now.Ezy Ryder wrote:Then how is my post a workaround? I told you how NOT to get program change recorded and how to get rid of the one you already have recorded.
I only saw one place to change patches; now I see 3 different places. I'll get it. Thanks!Ezy Ryder wrote:Then, why would you use the audio output of your Hardware synth if you're playing Crystal in the first place?
