I have always recorded at 16 bit/44.1 kHz. When my band was over the other night, we decided to try 24 bit/88.2 kHz. We spent a few hours recording and everything sounded fine, so I saved it and closed Tracktion.
Several hours later I came back and tried to reload the files, but they played back at a much faster rate, like the Chipmunks. I made sure all the settings on my MOTU828mkii and in Tracktion still showed 24/88.2 and they did. AI tried all other possible settings too. I should mention that I checked old clips I had recorded at 16/44.1 and they sounded fine.
Eventually, one of my bandmates tried clicking on the individual clips and then dragging the speed down from 1.0 to 0.5. Now the clips were at normal speed. But since there were several clips per track, they were no longer lined up correctly. I went through and spent a good bit of time realigning them.
This is a retarded method to record at 24 bit. Anyone know how to resolve this problem in an easier way?

this has nothing to do with 24-bit. its because you recorded at 88.2khz, which I'm guessing your sound card doesn't support (maybe only 96khz?)

I've recorded at 24/96khz and 24/44khz many times with my m-audio audiophile in tracktion and never had such a problem.

if nothing else solves your problem, load each wave file up into an editor and resample them all at the correct sample rate for your card and setup.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

sounds like an audiocard problem still.. your soundcard is playing them at the wrong rate..

try manually switching the card to something else like 48khz.. close it out.. open it back up and then try 88.2khz just to flush the settings

if that doesnt work.. then I'd agree with whats already been said.. resample them to 44.1khz

that said.. I prefer 24/44.1
