could there be a mode where the step sequencer doesn't play until it's triggered, and then plays the pattern once and stops?

ok, looks like we forgot to add the Sequencer on/off by MIDI as planned, LOL

we'll do,

meanwhile you can use an empty pattern ( e.g. the W one) to start/stop output,

all patterns from A to W are controlled from C1 to B2,

so if you keep W empty, you can use C2 on channel 16
as on/off
