I'm finally getting around to doing some live recordings with T and would like to be able to create a project template to speed up the process. It takes a while to drag the inputs around, name the tracks and set up submixes.
I tried to copy a project folder but I could only open one project at a time since the "id" was in use. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.
any way to create project templates?

Incidentally tried to do the same today. Fiddled around a bit with all the export/import/copy/paste possibilities I found, but couldn't get it to work. Quick browse through the manual gave no result. It must be dead simple, though. Perhaps it's possible simply to copy the template project folder (without even opening Tracktion) and give the copy a new name

Don't you just go to the edit you have set up as your "template" edit, then
1) choose "export edit" and export it as "a single Tracktion archive file".
2) Then go to your new project, and choose "Import" / "unpack an archive and add it to this project".
Obviously for further projects in future you just need to complete step 2.

It is one way paul, but it doesn't work. Try it. You get the Project ID error.

What do you expect me to do, read the whole post before I reply? Sheesh.
I will try this and see what the options are. I want the same thing, too. I work as a PC Tech by trade and I may be able to figure out some other options. If I do, I'll share...
..but only if I don't have to read the whole threads/posts.

No worries chief. To be honest, i've not properly tried what i've suggested either, as I'm at work, and have a demo version of T here that doesn't allow archiving, so it may well have the same issue. I don't know how Tracktion figures out the projects ID, maybe it's against currently open projects, hopefully not including library projects. Also hopefully when you save the modified edit it changes the id ... a bit of playing will figure it all out

The "export an archive of the template edit" trick has always worked just fine for me. Tracktion seems to export the last save rather than the current condition of the edit, so save before exporting.
To use more than one instance within a project you should probably "save edit as"/ export several archives with incremental names as importing the archive more than once causes an overwrite prompt. Should only take a few minutes though, and the archives are small.

Here's what I do . . .
I open Tracktion and create a new project in its own folder.
Then I minimize Tracktion.
I copy my edit template (set up with sends, virtual instruments, etc.) into the new project folder (I'll rename the edit file to something more appropriate).
Back to Tracktion, I select the edit that was made by default.
In the bottom section of the Project screen, there's a field labeled "file." I click the "three dots" button to its immediate right and select "Choose a different file for this clip to refer to."
I then select my template edit (appropriately renamed, of course).
Now the new project is associated with the template edit. Anal retentives can delete the unused edit . . . just in case.
Here's the "black magic" part. Tracktion is not entirely happy after I do this. So I quit (it crashes on quit). Then I reopen Tracktion, reopen the the project, and all is well again. I'm using the Mac version, hopefully the "black magic" part is limited to that platform.
Whew . . . you still with me? Good luck.

I'm curious, do people bother trying their suggestions before suggesting them? Because this one, for instance, doesn't work.
