Nothing happens when you press ctrl v.jtxx000 wrote:Make your template project, then when you want to make a new project create a new project and copy (ctrl c) the edit from the template project and paste (ctrl v) in the new one.skipscada wrote: *Copying edit in Tracktion: Slightly condescendingly suggested as obvious method, but not described in detail. Here's a simplified version of my earlier suggestion:
Open Tracktion and create a new project in a new folder.
Close Tracktion.
Open that new folder in Windows Explorer, there should be two files in it (a "project" file and an "edit" file).
Note the name of the edit file.
Now locate your template project (you're still in Windows Explorer) and make a duplicate of its edit file. Rename the duplicate to the same name you noted earlier .
Drag that renamed edit into the new project folder (overwriting the old one).
That should do it. When you re-open Tracktion and your new project's edit, it should look just like your template.
Hope this is helpful. Good luck.

OK... here's my method. I've tried it, and it works for me for 16-track live recordings...
To created the template:
1) I established what my templated needed to consist of.
2) Saved the project.
3) Exited Tracktion.
4) In Windows, copied the saved project and named it "Starter".
Now, whenever I want to start a new recording:
1) In Windows, copy the Starter file to a new name.
2) Launch Tracktion
3) Close the existing project (it remembers the last one).
4) Open the new project.
5) Hit the record button.

I can see that that would work fine but why bother copying the starter file in windows? Why not simply open the "Starter" file the use "Save as" to save as different name in your current working folder. That would be easier than copying and renaming files in Windows wouldn't it?brucerothwell wrote:OK... here's my method. I've tried it, and it works for me for 16-track live recordings...

For live recordings I have done in the past I have used the Archived edit method and unpacked the edit into the new projects each time. Works well but the method above would be simpler.
Cheers

that's the way to go and it isn't too difficult.chico.co.uk wrote:Don't you just go to the edit you have set up as your "template" edit, then
1) choose "export edit" and export it as "a single Tracktion archive file".
2) Then go to your new project, and choose "Import" / "unpack an archive and add it to this project".
Obviously for further projects in future you just need to complete step 2.
But remember to export before you do your first audio-recording for the song - else the waves are in the wrong folder.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'm going to give the export/import thing a try tonight.jens wrote:that's the way to go and it isn't too difficult.chico.co.uk wrote:Don't you just go to the edit you have set up as your "template" edit, then

b.t.w.:
Here's another (similar) way:
1. Choose 'save as'
1.1. create a new folder with the name for the song
1.2. give the edit the appropriate name and save.
2. Go to the projects tab and click 'new project'
2.1. Go to the newly created folder and
2.2. give the project appropriate name and save.
3. now Tracktion has created automatically a new edit for this project. Select it.
3.1. Below Tracktions project browser there is written 'name', 'project' and 'file'.
Right beside 'file' there is a button (...)
- click on it and select 'choose a different file for this clip to refer to' and
3.2. select the edit you saved at 2.2. and you're done.

After several helpful people have confirmed that export/import is a quick and easy way to go about it, I gave it a go and found it very straightforward.
