I saw this mp3 on another forum and was amazed:

It's a very nice 3D effect, although I imagine you have to listen on headphones for it to really come through.

Any url about the one who did it? or a link to that other forum. It is indeed awesome

hook up your modular software (synthedit) and use a stereo file, play around with some inverters and short delay times

ow! ow! ow!

I've just edited and looped the file I'm going to do a session later w/ my Proteus mind machine!! :D :o

I swear I can smell the sulpher after the matche is struck  :-o :D :o

i'm sure you need to be a bit more precise than just short delay times mr xoxos! the ear is a funny old shape for a reason, and the brain is very used to the shape of our ears for colouring and smearing the timing of the frequencies that eventually get to our drumsies..
it'd be super swell to have a plugin that did this kind of processing well.. and in a really simple way!
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

WOAH!!!!

Absolutely DO NOT listen to this with headphones in a dark room if you are high!!!!

WTF!!!

How does it sound like it's going above and below your right ear at 1:10!?! and you can distinguish between when the sound source is infront/behind you.

f**ked up!

.. in his own words. :hihi:

this type of processing is aparently patented? ..I wonder if we'll ever see it reach us for music production?

I can just see (and i mean see :P) goa/psy in a multi-dimensional space with this technique.. could get pretty interesting I think. :)

I read an article on this in audiotechnology magazine and it appears to be a technology where the speaker is a big flat disc that places a beam of sound in a listeners path, so that if it is directed at you and not your friend five metres away they will not hear it. the reviewer said that it appeared as though the sound was inside him like hearing it with his brain and not his ears. It said U2 were investing an interest in the technology for stage work, and also Chrysler for a unique driving experience. hmmmmmmm interesting.

I think the company was called Holosonics

Hmm, I'm listening on laptop speakers right now, so I could very easily be wrong, but isn't this sample just using standard HRTF techniques? I remember a demo that came with my old Aureal Vortex-based sound card, and it was extremely impressive. There were a few bees buzzing around, and aside from the crappy samples they used, it gave a pretty convincing result. The cool thing was that it was being done real-time, in hardware.

Then Creative felt threatened (EAX is a joke compared to A3D processing), and sued the company into bankruptcy. It makes me feel dirty having a Creative card in my computer.

Whoa, just realized that I went off on a bit of a tangent there. Anyway, this example sounds pretty cool. I doubt it'll be used commonly for music, but every once in a while, there are times this kind of processing might fit the music.
