Begging for improved timestretch

Unfortunately, there goes my upgrade. I really think they need to get a beat-slicing plugin bundled now though, this is just a shame. I don't want to walk away, but that is one of the prerequisites for me personally.

Even Garageband can do beatslicing.

Any chance at getting something bundled? What are the possibilities? It would have to be something cross-platform. I know One/Solo fits this, and Phatmatic Pro (but maybe that's a bit too expensive?)

No matter what, I'm guessing it wouldn't be a slick as having something native.

now this is a kicker... I can't help feeling it leaves T trailing rather than leading like it used to (first host with freeze?) Even Cubase has it's audio warp thing now, T users are still going to have to do things manually with an external app. (or rewire to Live or something)

I think it's fair to say I don't bitch about much, try and stay out of the dumb arguments yada yada but I'm genuinely amazed by this, I've now got my first doubts *ever* about upgrading.

Still no doubts here.

I'd rather have T2 right now, and then get the beatslicing and/or timestretch in 2.1 or 2.5 once Jules has had time to license it or otherwise sort it out.

You don't even need $40 for Dicer. Just spend $30 for Microdicer. ;)

I remember thinking 'I'd rather have T1 now, and get beatslicing in T2

Microdicer or anythin else wouldn't be as good as a native solution. OK, I'll just learn to deal with Live4's limitations and keep using T1 on occasion. Oh well.

It's true that native would be better, but I mean-- it's obviously not a perfect implementation in other hosts, either, or there wouldn't even BE a Phatmatik or Dicer. It's barely more cumbersome to use another beatslicer if it's truly needed. A bit, for sure... make no mistake, timeline beatslice and timestretch would be superior. But there is still a market for 3rd party, and when a cheap product like MicroDicer is available, I think it's reasonable to pay the $30 to good ol' Jon and get on with Tracktion if that's what's holding you back. ;)

Heck, if we programmed our beats in MIDI, we wouldn't need a beatslicer at all. :D

I was certainly hoping for these features with T2, but they're not important enough to me to hold off on upgrading. It's not like T2 will be the last Tracktion ever released, so I'd rather upgrade now with a host I know and love, reap the benefits of the new functionality already provided, and THEN worry about these features in future versions.

If it's truly that important a part of your workflow to have timeline beatslicing and timestretch, then I can understand why you'd hold off. But just make sure you don't cut off your nose to spite your face while you're at it. ;)

not at all - a beatslicer and native time-stretching/beat-slicing are two different things... :?

Another thought--

What's wrong with using Live4 if you already have it, to craft your entire beat? If that's working for you, nothing's stopping you from doing up the entire beat and then exporting it to Tracktion and continue from there...?

Greg, please ask me again what imo is so special about Tracktion!

Yeah, I'll be using Live4. No sweat, I just wish Ableton would optimize it more. Or get Freeze. Instead we get a $150 plug-in you can only use in Live4. Yipee!

Anyone try rewiring it to Traction as the host, I'm just wondering what the CPU hit would be. It would still be a clumbsy workaround though.

its a little disappointment to be sure ...

... but then ive got audition if i want quality timestretching ...

... tracktions positives IMHO outweigh the small inconvenience of taking audio into audition and timestretching at high quality before pulling it back into tracktion ...

slainte :ud: rob

yeah, i do loops by stretching in acid and exporting it to use in tracktion... it works great and takes up no extra cpu.

Jens-- I thought you abandoned Tracktion in favour of your new saviour, eXT? ;)

If I'm guessing what you're getting at, though, point taken-- it'd be better to NOT use another app. No disagreement here.

Peeps, remember that my name is on page 1 of the 'begging' folks. (or was it page 2? In any case, I want it as much as the next person!)
