I was watching some NAMM videos at www.sonicstate.com (http://www.sonicstate.com) and came across Open Labs NeKo GS workstation video. In the write up Pro Tools, GigaStudio 3, and others were mentioned, but what you you think they are using to power this $5,000 beast?

Tracktion of course. (That is unless Pro Tools has a new look :D )

:hihi:

Now that I've watched the video-- notice how most of the 'good' features he's mentioning are Tracktion features moreso than Neko GS features?

I think Tracktion demos the touchscreen better than most DAWs would. Sweet! Was that T2? I couldn't tell. Sampletank was there though.

Amazing

He just keep on saying "just as easy" and mentioning yet another Tracktion feature every time.

Tracktion is probably the best host for this set up.
Can you imagine if he needed to flip through several windows there.
Also I was surprised that even thou he had all those controls at his hand he did not assign them and he preferred to do it on screen.
That made me think he is probably very familiar with Tracktion, not so familiar with the beast he was demonstrating.

Given that the Neko uses a shell to simplify the XP user interface, it makes sense to use an application that comes from the same philosophy.

Well, that was actually very bad adverstisement for the Neko thingy as far as I'm concerned. He really is demoing Tracktion rather than the keyboard plus when it came to Neko features, they seemed to be a hindrance rather than inspiring - for instance using that touchscreen really seems to be a pita - did you notice how difficult it was for him to close a VST-GUI or to assign an input device - those kind of stuff is much easier with a mouse.

Cheers, Pädy

Yeah, the touchscreen was cool but looking at how the pan etc worked it looked a bit shaky. I don't think you could mix with it, you'd still need knobs.

Ah, but that's the thing-- it's full of knobs and sliders. He just didn't use them. He had only just tried it the night before, so I don't imagine he got into assigning faders and so forth.

Not that I'd want a Neko, but the idea is that each parameter will be assignable.

I know that, I was just commenting that the touchscreen looks cool but limited.

That has to be one of the best demos of Tracktion!

He didn´t use the Neko at all

Btw, have anyone noticed that the Neko LE, uses the Creative (EMU) soundcards?

The Neko LE also provides zero-latency, hardware-based mixing and monitoring via the included PatchMix DSP mixer, ...
