Sascha: Interesting that there is such an option to automatically load the easy sampler on dragging into DR-008. Definitely gotta try it again some day but atm I'm quite happy with what Battery2 can do (despite the annoying bugs regarding import of different formats including Battery1 and Kontakt). If it would have a button to timestretch a loop to fit host tempo it would be almost perfect. Intakt works fine here as well to sync loops to host. But to thoroughly explain the issue: For example I have several loops in my project which I can't chop up to make them fit to the host tempo due to their nature. I started the project at a host tempo of 94.50bpm and later changed it to 110bpm so the option to externally timestretch each loop I might probably use is inappropriate. So with Intakt I'd load several loops, create some sequences to trigger the ones I like and decide that I need two volume fade ins, one for loop one (eg. a simple bass drone with background ambience) so that it fades in at the beginning of the project, the other fade in for the second loop (eg. a simple rythmic industrial like pattern) at a later point after some effects happen. The problem: In Intakt you can't define an automation CC to automate volume for each loop but only volume for the whole instrument. That's no problem in Kontakt: Load the loops into zones, put each into it's own group, don't forget to disable the retarted, always automatically turned on "edit all" button (how I hate it!!), turn on TimemachineII for each group and sync it with the speed button set to "whole note" etc. Right click the volume button in each group, define a midi controller and draw in the automation. The only problem, like I connotated before, is that it sometimes won't sync properly and if you try to retrigger it after a few bars, it produces an annoying click in Logic each time it the loop gets triggered. I have yet to try it in another host - though some people agreed that it doesn't sync properly in Logic the pops and clicks could be due to some DFD setting or any other buffer related issue.
Oh and I also tried Sampletank but that's another annoying bugger. I just couldn't find a quick and easy way to create my own custom programs. Wondering why noone brought up a simple, multitimbral loop VSTi yet, like an Ableton Live Warp tool as VSTi or something which can be fully automated. Best way is still to externally timestretch loops and just load them into Battery or any other sampler, but sometimes I want to try dozens of like background atmosphere loops for intros where a simpler, not as timeconsuming solution would be great.

And Lance I only heard good opinions regarding ShortCircuit. I have yet to try it as well. To chop beats I don't need anything else but Phatmatik though, but I'd love to try any suitable alternativ to Kontakt, though I got quite into it I never liked primarily it's filters. Hmmm...can ShortCircuit coincidentally timestretch loops to host tempo?

Post

Could Lupah do the job? Or Wusikstation?

Edit: Just checked Lupah info and it only syncs via pitch. :(

Guess I have to wait until Phatmatik2 comes out or something. Hopefully Art will implement some timestretch engine.

you may wanna check out FLStudio...

it can used as a vsti
can load rex, mp3 and wav files
it can also chop up beats for you using the built-in slicer....

and has a fantastic step sequencer as well
Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good

that's a matter of opinion. live is garbage.

if the first thing you said hadn't been "thats a matter of opinion" I would have said 'garbage in garbage out, I told him not to believe anyone and try
out the demo.

ev0lver yes there is a way to do exactly that, more than one way actualy. each clip in live can have it's own trigger quantize setting so that when you press a scene (row of clips) or just a single clip, all of the clips can come in just when you want and not all at the same time,, the other way is if you wanted you could use Live 4s fantastic 'clip automation'
live is very much an incredible tool for breaks creation and nothing beats it for experimenting with how you play the breaks after you've created them.

Right you can load multiple loops in Beatburner, but you can't layer them in one instance. I could be wrong though...just tried the demo for some minutes and reckoned that it's not what I want.

I definitely have to try the FL Studio demo now though...elastic audio sounds good. Hopefully it'll work in Logic and isn't too complicated, then I'll buy that thing. I'll tell you what I think.
